Cancer Bats Part Ways With Guitarist Scott Middleton

Cancer Bats have parted ways with guitarist Scott Middleton. As a result, all of the band’s remaining 2021 shows have been postponed.

Middleton issued the following statement:

“AFTER MUCH CONSIDERATION AND AN AMAZING 17 YEARS TOGETHER, I’VE DECIDED THAT I WILL BE PARTING WAYS WITH CANCER BATS.

I LOOK BACK ON ALL THE RECORDS WE MADE, THE COUNTLESS TOURS & SHOWS, THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS WE ACHIEVED TOGETHER, AND MEMORIES WE’VE SHARED, WITH IMMENSE PRIDE AND GRATITUDE. I HAVE NOTHING BUT LOVE AND SUPPORT FOR MIKE, JAYE AND LIAM AND WISH THEM ALL THE BEST IN THE FUTURE.

I ALSO WISH TO EXTEND A MASSIVE THANKS TO ALL THE CREW & BANDS WE HIT THE ROAD WITH, THE AMAZING PR TEAMS, LABELS, AGENTS, MANGERS, PRODUCERS, VENUES, ARTISTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, AND JOURNALISTS WE EVER WORKED WITH; AND OF COURSE, ALL THE INCREDIBLE FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS OF CB WORLDWIDE, WITHOUT WHOM, OUR CAREER AND SUCCESS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE.

AFTER RECENT LIFE EVENTS, NOW, MORE THAN EVER IT FEELS THE TIME IS RIGHT FOR ME TO PRIORITIZE MY FAMILY, PERSONAL GROWTH/HEALTH, AND FOCUS MY MUSIC CAREER TOWARD HELPING OTHER BANDS AND ARTISTS THROUGH MY EXPERIENCE AND PASSION FOR PRODUCING, MASTERING, AND MIXING.

I AM CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING MY OWN RECORDING STUDIO EAST OF TORONTO, ON THE BAY OF QUINTE, IN THE BELLEVILLE/PEC REGION, WHICH WILL BE
READY IN THE NEXT MONTH OR SO.

PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO GET IN TOUCH.

SINCERELY,

SCOTT MIDDLETON”

Cancer Bats also commented:

“We wish Scott all the best in his future endeavours.

This is by no means the end of Cancer Bats.

The 3 of us will continue on this sonic path of destruction, heading into the studio soon to start tracking CB7

Due to Scotts departure, we are going to be postponing all shows for the rest of the year.

Thank you for your understanding and we can wait to see you all next year!!!!

Thanks to Scott for being our Brother in Metal the last 17 years.

Many hails to Scoeb the Mayor 🤘

Cancer Bats To Release “You’ll Never Break Us: Separation Sessions Vol. 2” In September, Share “Hail The Acoustic Destroyer” Featuring Lindsay Schoolcraft

Cancer Bats will be releasing a new acoustic EP, titled “You’ll Never Break Us: Separation Sessions Vol. 2,” on September 14. The effort will be available though Bandcamp with proceeds set to go towards Water First NGO.

“You’ll Never Break Us: Separation Sessions Vol. 2” Track Listing:

01. “Hail The Acoustic Destroyer” (feat. Lindsay Schoolcraft)
02. “Bricks Mandolins And More Tambourine” (feat. Eamon McGrath)
03. “Pneumoniacoustic Hawk”
04. “RAcousticTS”
05. “Winterpeg Folk Fest”

Liam Cormier said the following about the EP:

“After we released the first EP the reaction was so positive and great. So many people reached out saying they loved these new versions, that we felt really inspired to work on more songs and try more ideas. Jaye led the charge picking up his guitar and sending tons of ideas for us all to run with and the second round we had a bit better idea of what we were doing, and especially for me in terms of how to even sing these songs. Everything came together quickly and Vol 2 was tons of fun to make!”

The effort’s first single, “Hail The Acoustic Destroyer” (feat. Lindsay Schoolcraft), can be found below. Cormier added the following about that:

“For ‘Hail The Acoustic Destroyer‘ we all really wanted to capture the same energy and tension of the song but using a completely different approach from the original. Looking more at it being sparse and looming to convey the ‘heaviness’. Once that ground work was laid, having Lindsay Schoolcraft’s amazing goth tinged vocals on the track really pushes the song into a new melodic dimension, making the listener forget what the original ‘Hail Destroyer” even was.”

Cancer Bats To Release New Acoustic EP “You’ll Never Break Us: Separation Sessions Vol. 1”

Cancer Bats will be releasing a new acoustic EP titled “You’ll Never Break Us: Separation Sessions Vol. 1” on December 18. The effort can be pre-ordered on Bandcamp and proceeds from it will go towards Water First NGO.

“You’ll Never Break Us: Separation Sessions Vol. 1” Track Listing:

01. “Deathsmarch To A New Acoustic Beat”
02. “Road Sick Sick Sick So Stay Home”
03. “Black Metal Bicycle My Blues Riffs Away”
04. “Darkness Lite”
05. “Bed Of Nails Dreams Of Tambourines”
06. “Lucifer’s Slightly Less Rocking Chair”
07. “Bastards Waltz Recorded Live From TV” (Bandcamp exclusive)

Liam Cormier commented:

“After having our road dog existence of constant touring over the past 15 years halted due to the pandemic, and with all four band members, now spread across Canada in separate cities, towns and Provinces, we haven’t been in the same room since March. While separated from each other, we thought what better time to re-examine and record new versions of 6 classic Bats tracks. With the end of 2020 just around the corner, the optimistic lyrics to ‘Deathsmarch‘ seem to ring truer now than when first shouted in 2008, ‘Hey World You’ll Never Break Us, try your hardest, try your hardest.’”

He also added:

“While we are excited for fans to hear and enjoy these new renditions, the other goal for this project is to raise funds and awareness for the clean water crisis that still exists within Canada for many Indigenous communities.”

You can stream “Deathsmarch To A New Acoustic Beat“ and “Bastards Waltz Recorded Live From TV” from the EP below:

Cancer Bats Announce 10th Anniversary Edition Of “Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones”

Cancer Bats will be releasing a remastered 10th anniversary edition of “Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones” on March 20. You can find pre-orders for the vinyl version HERE. Liam Cormier commented:

“It’s crazy looking back ten years at this album and listening to all these songs. Hearing where we were at as a band, especially having Jaye writing on bass, made everything so much heavier. I could also really scream at this point after playing 1000+ live shows, this is where we really shifted into being more metal and aggressive of a band. I’m also so stoked this vinyl is available worldwide after so many people having been asking us all the time where they can find it and extra stoked it can be out on Bat Skull Records!!!!”
