  • System Of A Down’s Daron Malakian Fires Back After Facing Backlash From Fans Over “Centrist” Views

System Of A Down guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian has been facing backlash after releasing a new visualizer for a Scars On Broadway track titled “Your Lives Burn.” The song, which appears on the band’s latest album “Addicted To The Violence,” has proven to be controversial due its “centrist” political stance. As such, Malakian has been responding to the backlash on an Instagram post promoting the video.

    Malakian said the following:

“All these years you knew why I was sick of the right. Now you can see through these comments why I’m sick of the left as well.”

He then had several exchanges with fans:

    Exchange 1:

Fan: “Glad people realizing how shit these lyrics are. ‘Lives‘ and ‘Angry Guru‘ were some of the worst songs I’ve sat through”

Malakian: “I heard you are an amazing lyricist. Let’s hear your latest masterpiece.”

    Exchange 2:

Fan 1: “The people in the comments getting mad at him are proving his point i fear”

    Malakian: “Yup”

Fan 2: “How dare we have an opinion when someone expresses a dumbass opinion. We must be like the nazis or sumthin.”

Malakian: You’re not that different. Opposite sides of the same extremist coin. Which is why some of you cheer when someone on the other side gets assassinated. The Nazis thought the people who disagreed with them had dumbass opinions too. They also cheered when the opposition got killed. You both suck.”

    Exchange 3:

Fan: “I believe what youre looking for is actually communism 🤞 which does not entail being a liberal or conservative”

    Malakian: “Hell NO!!!”

Fan: “Communism liberates the working class 🔥will save us all”

Malakian: “I suggest you move to a communist country and see how that works out for you little kitty. Or you can save yourself the trouble and just ask the people who risked their lives escaping those places.”

  • Sumerian Records Founder Ash Avildsen Blasts Tech Companies For Embracing AI Music

Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen has blasted tech companies for embracing AI music. He says “there must be a velvet revolution of artists and labels that refuse to accept and comply with what the old guard is doing.”

    Avildsen said the following:

“We will not go quietly into the night as the corporate overlords once again marginalize and minimize the reward of human music.

The big three and big tech have all teamed up to usher in Al bands with open arms. Why? Same reason they allowed Spotify and YouTube to rape the artist royalty and devalue what playing a song on demand is worth. Because they get to sit in a closed door conference room, cut a deal for equity and an MG (minimum guaranteed up front advance) that solely goes to the corporation.

They are not in the individual artist business. They are in the shareholder business.

Allowing these Al bands to be uploaded to Spotify is like booking a door deal for a band and your % of the ticket money has to be split with a computer who went on stage before you with no beating hearts. That’s how the royalties work with streaming. It’s not a per play rate, it’s a numeric meritocracy designed to benefit those at the top of the food chain. Period.

There must be a velvet revolution of artists and labels that refuse to accept and comply with what the old guard is doing against our will.

We will not start 2026 off accepting defeat as humans who create and cultivate art. A solution will be presented in January that begins a new era in how the first window of music and video releases can launch that draws a clear line in the sand on which side of history musicians and those that work with them can decide to be on.

Without humans creating music and the teams around them who make daily sacrifices for the greater good so the musicians’ art can sustain their lives, none of these tech companies or distributors are worth anything. It’s time to remind these opportunists.

I welcome any CEO or exec from a major label or tech company to debate me live on the Al crisis. Thanks for reading.

  • Gene Simmons To Testify Before Senate To Support Artist Radio Play Compensation

Gene Simmons (KISS) and Michael Huppe, president and CEO of SoundExchange, will be testifying before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s Intellectual Property Subcommittee on December 9. The hearing is related to the American Music Fairness Act, which seeks to have radio corporations pay artists for playing their music.

    Simmons commented:

“Having spent my career in the music and entertainment industry, I understand the vital importance of this issue. The American Music Fairness Act represents sound public policy. Artists must be properly compensated for their creative work. I look forward to meeting with both Republican and Democratic Senators to discuss why this legislation is crucial for thousands of present and future American recording artists.”

    Huppe added:

“I’m pleased for the opportunity to testify before the Senate next week. Recording artists are an essential part of our culture. It’s outrageous that, in 2025, they still are not paid fairly for the work they do. I hope that the Senate will remedy this inequity and act swiftly to pass this important legislation.”

  • Showing Teeth Premieres “Labyrinth” Video

Showing Teeth has shared a new video for her latest single “Labyrinth.” You can check that out below. Notably, the song also features Periphery drummer Matt Halpern.

    Showing Teeth commented:

“‘Labyrinth‘ is a sad yet fun expression of my struggle to accept myself and escape the maze of people-pleasing. The verses are an angry outburst of grief for the parts of myself I’ve given so freely to feel accepted, while the chorus is the soft moment of bliss when you think you’ve found the right person and can finally love yourself. Reality is, only you can save yourself and escaping the labyrinth is a necessary journey to figure out why you are worthy of happiness.”

    She also added:

“Making the ‘Labyrinth‘ visualizer was fun and also kind of insane. I told Carly (Gnarly Media) my idea and the timeline and she was ready for the challenge. We filmed everything in less than two days and had to go very fast in order to get everything. We basically just aggressively played outside for several hours and Carly made us look cool.”
