Abiotic To Release 10th Anniversary Edition Of “A Universal Plague” In December, Premiere New Song “Mutation”

Abiotic will be releasing a 10th anniversary edition of their “A Universal Plague” EP on December 3. The effort, which has been retitled “A Universal Plague: Mutation,“ will come with two bonus tracks including “Mutation” (feat. Dickie Allen and Ray Jimenez) and a re-recorded version of “Vermosapien.“ You can check out “Mutation” below:

The group commented:

“We’re so grateful to get to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our debut EP with the re-release of A Universal Plague: Mutation. Fans have been asking us to release the EP digitally and on vinyl for what feels like forever and we’re so pumped to be working with The Artisan Era to get this out to everyone with some bonus tracks for the fans. We decided to re-record the song that started it all for us, Vermosapien, with our new lineup and make some creative tweaks, including using 8 strings, to give the song new life while keeping true to our original sound.”

“The idea was to show the mutation we’ve made as a band, hence the name of the EP. We also added a brand new song (Mutation), featuring our former vocalists Dickie Allen (Infant Annihilator) and Ray Jimenez (Acaedia), which is easily the heaviest song we’ve ever written. I think fans are going to lose their minds to this song, hearing the blend of voices that have been part of the band’s 10-year span of plaguing the extreme metal scene. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the band over the last decade. We are only able to do what we love to do because of you. Cheers!”

Abiotic Stream New Album “Ikigai”

Abiotic are streaming their new album “Ikigai” in its entirety. That effort features members of The Black Dahlia Murder, Entheos, Fallujah, etc. and it will officially be released on February 12.

Guitarist John Matos told Decibel the following:

“Our intention behind Ikigai was to come back with a vengeance. As it has been over 5 years since our last release, we wanted to put together the most cohesive, diverse, deep, and brain-shattering record we possibly could and I feel like we’ve achieved that and more with this album. Having written this over the course of the last couple of years and finishing this record during a pandemic, the feelings we sought to bring out with this record; pain, grief, desperation, and perseverance are palpable in every note, every chord, and every word, with lyrics touching on topics of suicide, depression, addiction, climate change and the struggle of finding our reason for being.”

“The title Ikigai translates from Japanese as ‘a reason for being.’ Each song represents a different approach to that concept. After 5 long years, we decided that as much as we love albums about space and aliens, we wanted to write something that could be felt and that would be relatable, as we all struggle to find our reason to carry on in these trying times. Lyrically, this album tells so many stories. The cover art depicts a traditional Samurai committing seppuku and as the Samurai is bleeding out, he sees these lives, his future lives. Life as a trans man/woman facing intolerance, as an addict, as an abused child battling mental health, as an owl as its home is destroyed by climate change; an infinite amount of lives struggling, but persevering in their struggle. Tying it all together, he finds his purpose in that moment of connection before he passes away on that field in 16th century Japan.”

“Our intention behind ‘Ikigai‘ was to come back with a vengeance. As it has been over 5 years since our last release, we wanted to put together the most cohesive, diverse, deep, and brain shattering record we possibly could and I feel like we’ve achieved that and more with this album.

We wanted to make this record real and relatable in every sense. This album is without a doubt the best material we’ve ever put together, with brand new elements, and a production/mix that has taken our sound to new heights.

The addition of Tony Simone and Kilian Duarte solidified this. We decided to include a variety of guests that we’ve always wanted to collaborate with, like Trevor Strnad, Chaney Crabb, Brandon Ellis, Scott Carstairs, Jared Smith, and Jonathan Carpenter, and are beyond excited for everyone to hear them.

We really wanted to push the boundaries of what fans expect from us while giving them the signature sound we’ve honed in that they’ve come to love. Personally, ‘Ikigai‘ is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life, especially after not knowing if the band was ever going to come back. But we’re back. And we’re here to stay.”

Recently re-emerged technical death metal outfit Abiotic is proud to announce their signing to the ever-expanding extreme metal label, @theartisanera . Active since 2010, Abiotic sprang to life with an urgent sense of immediacy both live and studio recording-wise that soon saw them signed to Metal Blade Records after their 2011 independent EP, A Universal Plague, was released. The band toured relentlessly every year from then on while also dropping their 2012 debut album, Symbiosis, and their sophomore album, Casuistry, in 2015. After a few years of time spent regenerating Abiotic back to life into what has become their strongest line-up yet, the group powerfully returned with their February 2019 live tour alongside Cognitive, God Of Nothing, and Greylotus. This was quickly followed by the unleashing of a lethal new single entitled "Emerald" in March of 2019. Stay tuned for further news and updates regarding Abiotic's third full-length tentatively set for release via The Artisan Era in the summer of 2020.
