Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Partners With Gibson

Metallica’s Kirk Hammett has announced a new partnership with Gibson. The guitarist said the following about that:

“It’s a really great and exciting time for me to be joining forces with Gibson. I look forward to achieving great things together in the future.”

Cesar Gueikian, brand president of Gibson Brands, added:

“It’s an honor to welcome the icon, the ripper, Kirk Hammett back to the Gibson family. Kirk has been carrying the flag for hard rock and heavy metal for decades, and his Gibson guitars have been there with him from the very beginning. From his first Gibson, his 1979 Flying V to ‘Greeny’ and everything in between, Gibson guitars have been an integral part of Kirk’s sound. All of us at Gibson are looking forward to this collaboration and are grateful that Kirk has trusted us to begin a new partnership.”

Kirk Hammett Hopes Metallica’s New Album Will “Cut Through The Division And Bring People Together”

During a recent interview with Classic Rock, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett talked a bit about the band’s upcoming album. The guitarist says that he hopes the effort will help “bring people together.”

Hammett said the following:

“Metallica has always been about bringing people together through music. I think the sentiment now is that people need music more than ever to bring everyone together and collectively celebrate that we’ve got to this point. There’s a lot of division in the world, and hopefully this Metallica album will cut through the division and bring people together in ways that are more beneficial for everyone over all.”

He also added:

“We’ve tried to make the most of the COVID year-and-a-half, and we’ve been pretty successful. We’ve got together remotely and worked, and we’ve got together [properly] and worked. Things are moving really well. I would say that the music we’re coming up with is very appropriate for the times.”

“Music should bring everyone together, it should be a celebration. That’s what music is about. It’s not about selling albums or getting Grammys, it’s about putting out good music and helping the situation with that music.”

Alex Lifeson (Rush) Says He Contributed To A New Track With Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) & Kirk Hammett (Metallica)

It looks like Alex Lifeson (Rush) and Kirk Hammett (Metallica) will be featured on a new track from Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine). Lifeson recently revealed the news during an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock.

Lifeson said the following:

“I think this is a project that [Morello]’s working on with a bunch of different musicians. I don’t really know what the future holds for it, but I really loved doing it.”

“He said, Put whatever you want on it — the more, the merrier. He was going to give it to Kirk Hammett, and Kirk was going to do the same thing.”

He also added:

“Being the contrarian, I did all of [these other styles], not just heavy rock stuff. We were all talking to each other while we were doing it, and we just had such a riot. I sent my stuff in and it went to Kirk then, and he sent his stuff in.”

Lifeson also revealed that he has already listened to an early mix of the track:

“It’s really some fun music. It’s so Tom Morello, his parts. I just smiled the whole way through listening to it. I thought it was really, really cool the way it turned out.”

Kirk Hammett (Metallica) And David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) Contribute Music To New Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) Book “The Albatross Man”

Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) have contributed music to the upcoming Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) book “The Albatross Man.” Hammett contributed to a cover of “Man Of The World,” while Gilmour contributed to a cover of “Need Your Love So Bad.”

The following was said about the book and music:

“Legendary Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green passed away, peacefully in his sleep, on July 25th 2020.

For the past 4 years Peter worked directly with Rufus Publications to produce a huge, illustrated visual book of his life and career. During this time a book of rare images, memorabilia, lyrics and notes from his time in Fleetwood Mac and beyond has been assembled with Peter having full control over the book’s direction and details.

During the evolution of the book it was decided to include some unique music as part of the project. A newly discovered vocal take by Peter, recorded in the late sixties in his mother’s house on a tape recorder, of Need Your Love So Bad formed the basis of the first song with guitars provided by Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, a huge fan of Peter’s work. The track was produced by Laurie Latham. Peter heard and approved mixes of the track.

The second track chosen was Man of the World and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, another huge Peter Green fan and current owner of the legendary Greeny guitar, was approached and quickly joined the project. He flew into London and on January 6th 2020 he went into London’s Abbey Road with producer Rob Cass to record the guitar parts for his revised vision of the song, all using Greeny. The following day Kirk went down to Canvey Island to meet with Peter and hand him Greeny once more but also to play him the guitar parts to Man of the World. Again Peter approved the music and approach. The track has now been mixed and finished in LA with legendary producer Bob Rock and also features Mick Fleetwood on drums. Both tracks have been recorded for the book project and offer widely different interpretations of Peter’s work.

The book will go on pre-sale from the end of April 2021 and ship win what would be Peters 75th birthday, October 29th 2021.”
