Sleep & More To Perform At 2019 Roadburn Festival, At The Gates’ Tomas Lindberg To Curate

Sleep will be headlining the 2019 Roadburn Festival, which is set to take place on April 11-14 at 013 in Tilburg, Netherlands. The band are planning two career spanning sets on April 13-14, including one focusing on “Holy Mountain” and another one focusing on “The Sciences.“ Aside from them, the event will also feature Birds In Row, Gore, Have A Nice Life, Heilung, Louise Lemón, Midnight, Seven That Spells, and Vile Creature. Furthermore, At The Gates’ Tomas Lindberg has been confirmed as the curator and the bands he chooses will perform on April 12-13 under the name “The Burning Darkness.”

Lindberg commented:

“There really are no words that can describe just how excited I am about this! To be asked to curate Roadburn in 2019 is an incredible honor. I have been at the last three editions of Roadburn, and it is by far my favorite musical happening every year. It is here I finally get to see bands live that have been on my radar for a while, and it is here that I – without fail – discover new music.

Just because of my involvement with At The Gates, Roadburn 2019 isn’t going to turn into a death metal festival, however there will definitely be a renewed focus on darkness and extremity – in every form.

I know curating a part of the Roadburn festival is a huge responsibility; one that I take deeply seriously. I am aiming to stay true to the Roadburn tradition of bringing a mix of exciting favourites mixed with a lot of new, challenging artists to the festival. Roadburn for me has always been about eclecticism, and underground music of all styles that desperately demand your attention. Walter and I have already started talking about possibilities, and I am super excited about the direction of these talks. See you there!”

Stay tuned for more announcements.

Godflesh to perform their Selfless album in its entirety Roadburn Festival 2018 as part of Jacob Bannon’s curation Godflesh are the the genre-blurring band founded by Justin Broadrick and G.C. Green in 1988. Their approach melds electronic/dub influences with the aggression of the metal and punk world. This forward thinking style has made Godflesh one of the most important bands to ever surface from the “extreme” music world. Laying the foundation for the blossoming post-metal world that dominates heavy music today. “I first experienced Godflesh when I picked up the Grindcrusher compilation from Earache Records as a teenager. The otherworldly power of Streetcleaner effected me in a way that I still find hard to describe. Since then I have been an avid follower of all music that Justin creates. Though I celebrate the expansive Broadrick catalog as a whole, it is his forays into melody under the Godflesh name that I really connect with. Selfless as is an album that has everything for me. Punishing heaviness, incredible hooks, and limitless emotional depth. It is a true honor that they have agreed to play this album in its entirety at Roadburn 2018” – Jacob Bannon. @Crowbarmusic to perform "Odd Fellows Rest" in its entirety at Roadburn 2018 . As part of Jacob Bannon's curation, Crowbar will perform their classic album "Odd Fellows Rest" in its entirety at Roadburn Festival 2018. . Crowbar have been at the forefront of heavy music for nearly three decades. Early in their career, they were of the first to combine the key elements of the Doom and Thrash metal sounds, pioneering what is considered the Sludge metal genre. After a number of breakthrough releases, Crowbar released their 1998 album "Odd Fellows Rest". This incredible album merged their existing heaviness with a refined melodic sensibility, creating one of the most powerful metal albums of the era. . "In 1991 I was introduced to Crowbar when I bought a tape of their "Obedience thru Suffering" album. The sheer heaviness of the band floored me and I was hooked ever since. For me personally, their 1998 album "Odd Fellows Rest" is a high watermark of creativity. It is an incredible collection of songs that have been daily listens for me for nearly two decades. It's an honor to have the band perform this record live at Roadburn Festival 2018." . – Jacob Bannon . #jacobbannon #jbannon #converge #wearyourwounds #roadburn #crowbar #oddfellowsrest #roadburn #roadburnfestival

@converge returns to @roadburnfest in April 2018, this time performing two exclusive sets. The second will be a performance of our new album "The Dusk In Us" in its entirety. @jbannon commented: "It took our band nearly five years to cut and shape our most recent album The Dusk In Us. Scheduled for release on November 3 through Epitaph and Deathwish, it is a very emotional album for the band. All four of us went through a lot of trials and tribulations in those years and it is reflected in those songs, connecting with our lives ways hard to put into words. In other news, Baroness’ John Baizley has been revealed as the 2017 curator. He said the following about that:

“Over the course of my career, as musician and visual artist, I have come to realize that the Roadburn Festival, 013 Venue, and city of Tilburg have become a critical and integral part of my yearly routine. Both the festival, and so many of the wonderful people who work diligently throughout the year on the festival have, over time, become very dear friends of mine, helping make the Tilburg and Roadburn a real home-away-from-home for both myself and our band.

Baroness got one of our first real opportunities to play to a larger, welcoming crowd playing the main stage at 013 Venue in 2009 (the recording of which was included on a deluxe version of Blue Record, I held my first international art exhibition as the resident artist at Tilburg’s Gust Van Dijk Gallery during Roadburn 2013, and it seems I’ve played just about every stage in Tilburg at some point or another. While on tour, Baroness regularly stops in Tilburg on our days off to visit our friends, many of whom we met on our first European tour in 2006. In short, Baroness and I have always felt a very strong connection to the organizers, fans, and spirit of Roadburn.

It is with great excitement that Roadburn and I are announcing my upcoming involvement as the curator of Roadburn 2017. It is such a high honor to have even been considered for the role; I feel genuinely privileged to have fostered so many wonderful relationships within the microcosmic-world that surrounds this incredibly unique festival. Without revealing anything too specific concerning the lineup, the groundwork that Walter and I have laid already is staggering, both in its scope and diversity.

I never dreamed that I’d get to communicate with, let alone invite and present so many incredible bands during this one consolidated musical event. I am proud to have the opportunity to showcase so many of those artists, who have had an indelible impact on my own work, so many esteemed friends and tour-mates, and people/ bands with whom so many in our community share fundamental creative ideals.

Additionally, it is yet further honor to have been offered the headlining slot at 013’s main stage on Friday night. When Baroness formed in ’02/’03, we could never have foreseen anything like this; and when I look at this upcoming year (with as much perspective as I am able), it’s obvious how enormous the network of support we’ve been granted has been; and how much back-breaking work has been done by our crew, our team, our friends, and our fans, such that we are able to attend and play a festival in this fashion.

I know I speak for Baroness when I extend a deeply heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who has offered us any type of support over the past 15 years. Every step forward has been painstaking and not without sacrifice, and I/we would like to show our utmost gratitude to any and all who’ve helped us along the way. We will be piecing together a very special set for Roadburn 2017, one which we hope will highlight our history with this festival and our shared history as a band.”
