• Byzantine Share Claymation Video For “Harbinger”

Byzantine have shared a claymation video for their song “Harbinger.” You can check that out below. The track is from the band’s latest album “Harbingers.”

    Vocalist Chris Ojeda commented:

“This video has taken months to curate. We wanted to continue our path of handmade original artwork for this new album. My daughter Mallory and I wrote the script for the story, hired a young Claymation artist from Mexico named Adrian Venti to hand build every scene out of clay and brought Holly Grayson with Screaming Butterfly Entertainment (Justinian Code, The Cicada Tree, The Agonies) to edit all the footage to make this beautiful music video about a boy who, after losing his father, searches for his importance in life, only to be lured in by a voracious Wolf who steers the boy down a path of greed and selfishness. The boy is eventually saved by one random act of kindness towards a lone Raven. Ravens never forget.

Mallory and I are fans of all things stop motion. Movies like Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline, James And The Giant Peach, and music videos from Peter Gabriel, Bjork, Tool, and Primus. We modelled the main character after my six-year-old son, Henry. I hope you guys enjoy this labor of love and appreciate the amount of work and symbolism that has gone into the script, the Claymation, and the brilliant editing. Our team decided to push the creative aspect as far as we can and tell this story of a boy who just wants to be important.”

  • A Perfect Circle Announce New 25th Anniversary Vinyl Pressings Of “Mer De Noms”

A Perfect Circle have announced new 25th anniversary vinyl pressings of their 2000 album “Mer De Noms.” A zoetrope variant will be available on September 25 and a One-Step DSS audiophile variant will be available on October 10.

Further details were shared in a press release:

“A Perfect Circle’s Mer de Noms, the landmark debut album from the Maynard James Keenan and Billy Howerdel founded band, is celebrated with two special limited-edition releases: a mesmerizing 2LP zoetrope vinyl edition and an audiophile One-Step pressing as part of the Definitive Sound Series (DSS). Both releases commemorate the album’s 25th anniversary by showcasing its striking visuals and its groundbreaking sound in never-before-heard clarity.

The new 2LP zoetrope edition brings the record to life with four distinct animations – one on each side of the vinyl. The visuals include the album’s distinctive glyphs, images from the band’s original photo session featuring the line-up of Keenan, Howerdel, Josh Freese, Paz Lenchantin, and Troy Van Leeuwen, clips from the David Fincher-directed “Judith” video, and a hypnotizing display of the band’s iconic logo.

Mer de Noms also receives a special One-Step pressing as part of the Definitive Sound Series (DSS). Pressed at RTI and mastered by Levi Seltz (Metallica, Green Day) from 96kHz/24bit source files transferred from analog flat masters, this edition faithfully preserves the raw power and nuance of the recordings with exceptional depth and detail. Strictly limited to 3,000 hand-numbered copies, the One-Step process ensures the truest possible representation of Mer de Noms, offering an audiophile-grade experience that captures every subtlety of the platinum album.

In a recent Revolver cover story, Keenan described the recording process as deeply personal: “It seemed really emotional. There were a lot of elements that I responded to – where I could explore shadow aspects of myself.” Howerdel recalled “getting goosebumps” the first time he heard Keenan’s voice on the tracks they’d been working on in their shared North Hollywood rental.

Pre-orders are now available for both Virgin Records/Ume releases: the zoetrope vinyl edition, slated for release on Sept. 25 (https://APerfectCircle.lnk.to/MerDeNomsZoetrope), and the One-Step DSS audiophile edition, out Oct. 10 (https://shop.capitolmusic.com/products/mer-de-noms-definitive-sound-series-25th-anniversary-audiophile-edition-2lp).

A Perfect Circle performs at Louder Than Life on Sept. 20 and Aftershock on Oct. 2.”

    Ben Jorgensen commented:

“When you’re going through a traumatic experience — and are actually underwater in an event such as a divorce — it’s very difficult to have any kind of perspective on anything other than that one thing that’s consuming all aspects of your life. ‘The Rain Museum’ was written right after I went through this crazy life event. For this one, in contrast, I’m higher off that waterline, and I have a broader perspective now. I’ve been taking stock of my life as a whole, and so I found myself thinking and writing about the strange experience of memories and the power they have over all facets of who I am.

It’s an exploration of me wondering how much of my life is controlled by what I’ve been through. And trying to unpack all sorts of different memories, whether they’re from relationships I’ve been through, betrayals, addictions, friends I’ve lost along the way. It’s me wondering if I am just the collective sum of all the things I’ve lived through or if there is a me underneath it all who can still choose his own fate.”

    He also explained the title:

“While working on these demos one day, my computer crashed. But right before completely freezing, it spit out an error message on the screen that said: ‘THERE IS NO MEMORY.’”

A video for the latest single, “Breathe Again,” can be found below. The following was said about that in a press release:

“[It’s] a song about trying to come to grips with the fact that there was someone who you thought would be there for you through thick and thin who instead used a moment when you were at your lowest point to hurt you deeper than you thought possible.”

    Jorgensen added:

“This person has since moved on and there is really no reconciliation possible for us, so this song is my attempt at sorting through the situation and trying to find some resolution. I think at the end, I attempt to forgive, but honestly the pain was just too great for me to really allow that.”
