  • The Ocean Share Cover Of Nine Inch Nails’ “Even Deeper”

The Ocean have shared their cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Even Deeper.” The track will appear on Magnetic Eye Records’ upcoming tribute album “The Best Of NIN Redux.” That compilation will be released on November 28 alongside a tribute to “The Downward Spiral” called “The Downward Spiral Redux.” Guitarist Robin Staps commented:

“When Nine Inch Nails released the double-album ”The Fragile’ in 1999, it was an eye-opening record for Loïc and me in many ways. The sheer scope of this album, the production marrying fat electronics with broken, organic, and acoustic elements that are intentionally slightly out of tune – no one else had done it like that before. Initially, we wanted to cover ‘The Great Below’, but someone had already picked that track, which made ‘Even Deeper’ our second choice. In hindsight, we were lucky with that. It is the perfect track for us and I like to think that we managed to make it ours, while honouring the original. Special thanks go out to Simen from Spurv and Orestis from Playgrounded for contributing trombone and synths. This is also a farewell, big thank you, and send-off to Loïc, as it was the final track that we recorded with him on vocals!”

  • Whitesnake’s David Coverdale Officially Announces His Retirement

Whitesnake’s David Coverdale has officially announced his retirement. The singer said the following:

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the ‘Snake, a special announcement for you. After 50 years-plus of an incredible journey with you, with Deep Purple, with Whitesnake, Jimmy Page, the last few years has been very evident to me that it’s time really for me to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and my skintight jeans. And as you can see, we’ve taken care of the lion’s wig. But it’s time for me to call it a day. I love you dearly. I thank everyone who’s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey — all the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It’s amazing, but it really is time for me to just enjoy my retirement. And I hope you can appreciate that. Once again, I love you with all my heart. Fare thee well.”

  • AC/DC’s Melbourne, Australia Show Registered On Earthquake Monitoring Equipment

AC/DC’s November 11 show at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia was so loud it registered on equipment used to monitor for earthquakes. Adam Pascale, chief scientist at the Seismology Research Centre, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that the concert hit the 2-5 hertz range on a seismograph.

    Pascale said the following:

“The sound waves that people were experiencing nearby and feeling something through their bodies, that’s the equivalent to what our seismographs feel. We’re picking up the ground motion, we’re not picking up the sound from the air. So you’ve got speakers on the ground pumping out vibrations and that gets transmitted through the ground, but also the crowd jumping up and down is feeding energy into the ground.”

    He also added:

“If everyone’s sort of bouncing in unison, it tends to amplify the signal so we can pick it up a little bit better. Whereas if it’s sort of just general crowd motion, like even at the grand final at the MCG [Melbourne Cricket Ground], we can still pick that up.”
