  • Dark Tranquillity, The Crown, And The Halo Effect To Pay Tribute To Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates) During Upcoming Charity Concert

Dark Tranquillity, The Crown, and The Halo Effect will be paying tribute to the late Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates) during a December 6 show at Monument 031 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Proceeds will go towards Cancerfonden and the Gardens Of Grief fund. Tickets can be found HERE.

The following was said about the concert:

“November 14th marked the 30 year anniversary of the iconic, globally influential and genre-defining masterpiece that is At The Gates “Slaughter of The Soul”.

Sadly, the voice behind the timeless classic did not make it to see the anniversary, as Tomas ‘Tompa’ Lindberg passed away from cancer on September 16th. As a small token of appreciation for the legendary legacy of both Tompa and the album, we hereby invite you to a night in his honour on December 6th – where all ticketsales will go directly to Cancerfonden and the Gardens of Grief-fund set up there by Elis Markskog of Malmö Massacre.

A very special lineup of friends – Dark Tranquility, The Crown and The Halo Effect – will take the stage to perform, honoring the influence of the iconic sound Tompa helped form – and celebrate the life of one of the best to ever have done it.

    R.I.P Tompa Lindberg.

PLEASE NOTE: this is a celebration of Tompas legacy – not full-set concerts. The aim is to gather friends, fans and family alike and celebrate the music and honor our friend. Please join us if you can.

Thank you to Soile Siirtola of extreMMetal.se for the photo of Tompa.

Feel free to contribute more to the fund at Cancerfonden: https://www.cancerfonden.se/insamlingar/gardens-of-grief“

  • “When Rock Met Hip-Hop” Book To Be Released In February

Steven Blush (“American Hardcore”, etc.) has announced a new book titled “When Rock Met Hip-Hop: How Run-DMC, Aerosmith, Anthrax, The Beastie Boys, and More Crossed Cultural and Musical Boundaries.” The effort will be released on February 5 via Backbeat Books.

The following was said about the book in a press release:

“One of the most important events in modern music history remains the late ’80s cross-pollination when rock met hip hop. From Aerosmith and Run-DMC‘s groundbreaking collaboration, the Beastie Boys’ License to Ill use of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath to Public Enemy joining up with Anthrax, Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons, De La Soul and 3rd Bass, to the 344 hip hop records that sampled Billy Squier’s “The Big Beat”—this era exemplified creative possibilities and cultural energy that defined a generation. Rap records sampled rock bands, elevating sampling into an art form and influencing all other genres of popular music.

The book WHEN ROCK MET HIP-HOP explores the many ways the fusion of rap and rock gave hope to a sense of interracial harmony, confronting sociocultural fault lines, and sparking collaborations that forever altered the course of popular music. In keeping with Steven Blush’s celebrated works—When Rock Met Disco and When Rock Met Reggae—this book illuminates the musical cross collision and cultural fallout that changed the sound and significance of popular music for the better and remains an influence today.

Steven Blush draws from decades of experience as an author, journalist, documentarian and active participant in the culture at that time. A pioneer in chronicling musical boundary-breakers, Blush brings incisive cross-genre analysis and first-person interviews with the visionaries who made music history. From documenting the underground hardcore movement to following the evolution of hybrid genres, Blush’s legacy shines in his exploration of the stories, sounds, and intersections that shaped generations. His acclaimed books include American Hardcore, American Hair Metal, 45 Dangerous Minds, Lost Rockers, New York Rock, When Rock Met Disco, and When Rock Met Reggae. He produced and wrote the Sundance Film Festival-premiered documentary film American Hardcore (Sony Pictures Classics, 2006) and is recognized for his deep-dive interview style, first honed at Seconds Magazine. Blush lives in New York.

WHEN ROCK MET HIP-HOP is not just a chronicle of music—it’s a testament to cultural transformation, artistic fusion, and the resilient spirit that keeps the beat alive.”
