Zoltan Bathory Says Five Finger Death Punch’s “Living The Dream” Video Doesn’t Have An Anti-Mask Message

Five Finger Death Punch recently received some backlash for their “Living The Dream“ video, which many believed had an anti-mask message. Now, guitarist Zoltan Bathory has issued a statement denying those claims.

Bathory said the following:

“As much as some *news sites* used “anti-mask” as a clickbait title (And I must applaud the capitalist in them or I myself would be a hypocrite) Let’s make this crystal clear: In a fictional story, Amongst shopping cart zombies, Tide Pod eating fat superheroes and all the other metaphors, why would anyone think the mask scene isn’t one.

The scene in question is not about the masks… it’s NOT an Anti-Mask message…
… in fact you can go to FiveFingerDeathPunch.com
Right now and buy some cool ones… 😁

If I must explain this 🤷‍♂️ The whole video is in the frame work of fiction, a dystopian nightmare of one of the founding fathers – right before he signs the constitution.

Just as I prefaced it: “We as artists, have a unique opportunity to portray and ridicule the absurd to prevent it from *becoming* reality.

The mask segments are about hypocrisy on the highest level. When the rules are made for you but those who made them are exempt. Pretty much the standard in all dictatorships and totalitarian regimes (I had the displeasure of growing up in one) hence the reference.

I often say, ask us!!! The immigrants… the Cubans, the Venezuelans, the North Koreans, anyone from the former Soviet block… Talk to us and we will tell you …. WE were lucky, because we had a place to escape to. We are fortunate that we could come here…. but If America is gone, where will you go?

We immigrants also remember how our freedom slipped away, how our rights were ripped from us, how we were kept under the thumb and in fear of our own governments. So maybe, just maybe… we have valuable experience we can tell you about, we can forewarn you of the things we have seen before.

So We the people must do everything in our power to stay free as a society. We must prevent the rise of tyranny in all shapes and forms, we must resist the would be dictators and the totalitarian ideals. This is what the founding fathers worried about and tried to prevent by creating the constitution. Believe it. America is a miracle, and I LOVE this country… and I will never shut up about it.

Anyway – not anti mask – and If you reduced this entire video to that scene and missed the metaphor behind it … Well… the good news is – It is STILL America so you have the right to have and even print your own opinion.”

Five Finger Death Punch Premiere “Living The Dream” Video

Five Finger Death Punch have premiered a new video for their song “Living The Dream.” This track is from the band’s latest album “F8.”

Zoltan Bathory commented:

“America is a beautiful idea that draws immigrants like myself from all over the world to the promised land of equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This idea is now under siege and certain events are starting to remind me of the things many of us came here to escape… It’s not a “left against right” problem but an evolutionary problem.

The growing pains of a civilization that without the necessary spiritual enlightenment, arrived a bit early to a level of technology where everyone is connected. The good news is that now everyone has a voice. The bad news is that now everyone has a voice.

So we are living in the manipulators’ paradise, where liars and hypocrites run unscathed, the news are just opinions, politics are a blood sport, and facts are determined by consensus instead of the truth. We as artists, however, have a unique opportunity to portray and ridicule the absurd to prevent it from becoming reality.”

Five Finger Death Punch Premiere “A Little Bit Off” Video

Five Finger Death Punch have premiered a new video for their song “A Little Bit Off.” This track is from the band’s latest album “F8.”

Guitarist Zoltan Bathory commented:

“Our new record ‘F8‘ came out right at the exact moment Covid 19 smashed into western society and (naturally) all attention was diverted to the pandemic. It placed us in a difficult situation, where on one hand this is probably the best album we have ever made, on the other it felt insensitive to promote a record on full tilt boogie while people were dying all across the world, businesses closed down, and the economy went face down in a ditch.

Since it affects all public events, and tours are cancelled for who knows how long, artists also became victims of the fallout. So we decided to make this video a snapshot of the unprecedented times and underline it with some humor to at least lighten the overall gloomy vibes.

However, here we are today ready to release it … but thinking once again … is it insensitive to debut the video now that the world is on fire…I guess this will turn out to be the anthem for 2020… We are all ‘a little bit off today’.”

Five Finger Death Punch have premiered a lyric video for their new song “Living The Dream.” This track is from their new album “F8,” which will be released on February 28.

Zoltan Bathory Says Five Finger Death Punch’s New Album “F8” Is A “Rebirth”

During a recent interview with Billboard, Five Finger Death Punch’s Zoltan Bathory discussed the band’s new album “F8“ (out February 28). According to the guitarist, the record is a “rebirth.”

Bathory said the following:

“Here we are — everybody’s sober, everybody’s ready to work and focused. There’s a lot to say, a lot to prove. It’s like a new band, in a way. It’s progressing. It’s rebirth. It’s transcendent. When I listen to this album, it’s the same sound, the same band — but it isn’t. If you really listen to this, it’s not the same band — for the better, both musically and lyrically.”

He also added the following about the inspiration for the album:

“…There’s no political or social commentary. It’s not about what’s happening in the world. It’s about the band — what we went through and who we are as people now, at this moment, who we are as a band at this moment. It felt like we survived a tornado so to speak, a Category 5 with all the chaos around us. So it’s very much a personal record.”

He later continued:

“Ivan was in a very difficult situation. He went back many, many times to rehab. At moments he looked like he was not gonna make it, that he was gonna be another ‘rock star’ that didn’t make it. We lost Chester Bennington. We lost so many of these guys, some of them personal friends, and Ivan was almost one of them — a couple times he did die and has to be resuscitated. He literally said, ‘This album is everything that happened in my life leading up to this record.’ He calls it his absolution.”

Bathory also added:

“The last few years the main focus was saving the band, putting out the fires and the constant issues. There was always distractions. Now that the chaos has disappeared Jason and I can really concentrate on each other and each other’s playing and how we can complement each other. We can really now work even closer and focus more, and that relationship got better because the circumstantial noise and constant tornado went away.”
