Umbilicus (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Etc.) Premiere New Song “Umbilicus”

Umbilicus, the 60s/70s style rock band featuring Paul Mazurkiewicz (Cannibal Corpse), Taylor Nordberg (Deicide, Inhuman Condition), Vernon Blake (Anarchus, Napalm Death [live]), and Brian Stephenson (Fore, Old James), have premiered a new song titled “Umbilicus.” This track is from the band’s new album “Path Of 1000 Suns,“ which will be released on September 30. Nordberg commented:

“The story behind ‘Umbilicus‘ is pretty hilarious. When Paul, Vern, and I were jamming and writing at the Cannibal spot, we noticed this tiny little plant growing from the ceiling. Weeks went by and it got longer and longer and eventually it reached the floor. So we wrote a new tune at the time and it was dubbed Umbilicus, named after the plant, also because I had read the word when I was reading ‘It‘ by Stephen King and it may have been in one of the ‘Alien‘ movies as well… It eventually became the band name, too! You can hear a lyric in there about “..from a ceiling in Florida”. It’s a pretty fun song, musically and lyrically.”

Umbilicus (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Etc.) Premiere “Gates Of Neptune” Music Video

Umbilicus, the 60s/70s style rock band featuring Paul Mazurkiewicz (Cannibal Corpse), Taylor Nordberg (Deicide, Inhuman Condition), Vernon Blake (Anarchus, Napalm Death [live]), and Brian Stephenson (Fore, Old James), have premiered a new video for their new song “Gates Of Neptune.” This track is from the band’s new album “Path Of 1000 Suns,“ which will be released on September 30. Nordberg commented:

“Gates is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. It’s a pretty simple song, but it says so much and is so incredibly dynamic. It really takes you on a journey. Brian’s vocals are also absolutely beautiful on this track, and really made it go from a neat song to an epic one! Though we made the band to make some classic hard rock, one of the things that made all those old bands so good was because they were able to be dynamic and have a ‘ballad’ track on an album. ‘Dream On‘ I rest my case! We hope you all enjoy this song.”

Cannibal Corpse, Inhuman Condition, Etc. Members Launch New Project Umbilicus

Paul Mazurkiewicz (Cannibal Corpse), Taylor Nordberg (Inhuman Condition, The Absence), Vernon Blake (Anarchus, Napalm Death [live]), and Brian Stephenson (Fore, Old James) have launched a new project called Umbilicus. The 70’s style rock band will release their debut album in 2022.

Mazurkiewicz commented:

“Umbilicus was formed in the summer of 2020 and driven by our love of rock and roll from the late 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s. I’ve been listening to well-known bands like Grand Funk, Bad Company and Steppenwolf and not-so-well-known bands like Sir Lord Baltimore and Lucifer’s Friend for the last 20 years or so now. The more I listened to these bands the more I wanted to play music like this.

It is just so much fun to sit back and groove out and play by complete feel without beating my body down. To just play some pure hard rock! We composed 10 very cool songs throughout 2020 but the one piece of the puzzle was missing: an awesome voice to tie it all together.

Enter Brian Stephenson! An amazing vocalist and lyricist that completed the lineup! I am so proud of what we have written and I can’t wait for the world to hear what we have to offer!”
