Metal Allegiance To Cover Black Sabbath’s Self-Titled Album During Halloween Show In Chicago

Metal Allegiance have announced that they will be performing Black Sabbath’s 1970 self-titled debut album in full during a special Halloween (October 31) show at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago, IL. However, it’s worth noting that David Ellefson (Megadeth) and Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, etc.) do not appear to be taking part in this concert. The other core members, Mark Menghi and Alex Skolnick (Testament), will perform with Bobby Blitz (Overkill) and Brann Dailor (Mastodon). Crobot, Weapons Of Anew, and Metalfier will open.

Metal Allegiance Announce West Coast Fifth Anniversary Dates

Metal Allegiance, the band featuring core members David Ellefson (Megadeth), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Mike Portnoy (Sons Of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater, etc.) and Mark Menghi, have announced some fifth anniversary shows with Superfix and Weapons Of Anew. The group will be joined by special guests Chuck Billy (Testament), John Bush (Armored Saint), Phil Demmel (ex-Machine Head) and Troy Sanders (Mastodon). Max Cavalera (Soulfly, etc.) will also perform at the Phoenix, AZ show and Steve “Zetro” Souza (Exodus) and Gary Holt (Exodus, Slayer) will perform at the San Francisco, CA show. Here’s the dates:

04/17 Phoenix, AZ – The Van Buren
04/18 Los Angeles, CA – The Belasco Theater
04/19 Las Vegas, NV – House Of Blues
04/20 San Francisco, CA – The Fillmore

Menghi said the following:

“Five years already? Geez… when I thought of the words ‘Metal Allegiance‘ in my local taco joint and the skeleton of a concept, I never imagined MA becoming what it has become. Only a few short months after that, we were on Motörhead‘s ‘Motorboat Cruise‘ and on that boat the future of MA as I knew it (well not at the time) is when everything changed as we thought ‘hey, lets write some music together’.

Well… 2 full-length albums, an EP and many memorable shows later we’re still intact and stronger than ever. I look forward to celebrating with everyone and hope to see many old faces and new ones at these special shows. Each gig is going to be different with some surprise guests planned for each city. In true MA fashion…Ya never know who is gonna show up?!?!”

Skolinick also commented:

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 5 years! While MA has had some memorable one off concerts recently, tour dates have been relatively rare due to schedules. Now the stars have aligned to make this run of shows possible, including a strong lineup that’s touring together for the first time, some great venues and very special guests. Come celebrate with us!”

Ellefson continued:

“Most bands barely survive one album and a tour. So to go from our debut all star jam on Motorboat in 2014, to having full length releases and accompanying world tour dates under our belt, five years has packed a big loud punch from Metal Allegiance. I think it shows that great music and friendship have always been at the heart of Metal Allegiance so this five year milestone finds us a perfect celebration for just that!”

Portnoy added:

“5 years of hanging, jamming, thrashing, ball crushing and ball busting with this wrecking crew! I love being able to write, record and perform this music with these guys…it’s always a blast!”

Metal Allegiance To Cover Black Sabbath’s Self-Titled Album At Upcoming Anaheim, CA Show

Metal Allegiance, the band featuring core members David Ellefson (Megadeth), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Mike Portnoy (Sons Of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater, etc.) and Mark Menghi, have announced that they will be performing Black Sabbath’s 1970 self-titled debut album in full during their January 24 show at The House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA. That concert will also include another full set with the following guests: Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), John Bush (Armored Saint), Chuck Billy (Testament), Bobby Blitz (Overkill), Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder), Mark Tornillo (Accept), Phil Demmel (ex-Machine Head), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), and Doyle (Misfits).

Menghi commented:

“This past October we had the idea of covering the first Sabbath record while dressing up in costume for a one-time only (scaled down) MA show.

However, we had way too much fun and decided to bring it to Anaheim and incorporate the ‘scaled down’ four piece into the massive MA Anaheim show at our home away from home in SoCal. We’ll be doing a full MA set filled with the MA thrash attack you all know and love, covered by a few sprinkles of select gems and guests dosed with the first Sabbath record.

This show is NOT to be missed and will certainly be one for the ages.”

Skolnick added:

“It is a fun challenge to play Black Sabbath’s debut album – the music has as much in common with Cream and other psychedelic jam rock of the period as the future metal genre it inspired. Playing it live for Halloween (in full early 70s Sabbath regalia) for a packed house in Brooklyn was so special that we just had to bring this experience to friends at our annual Anaheim HoB bash!”
