Exodus Drummer Tom Hunting Offers Update On His Cancer Battle, Says He Will Be Undergoing Surgery Next Week

As previously reported, Exodus’ Tom Hunting is currently battling squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach. Now, the drummer has offered a new health update, saying that he is set to undergo a total gastrectomy next week.

Hunting issued the following statement:

“Hey Y’all, I wanted to check in and thank everyone SOOOOOO much for the love and support! I see all the awesome events and things people are putting together out there to help me in this fight. I really am overwhelmed with gratitude and feel so blessed to be a part of this community we all share in. I really believe that angels are out there walking around that don’t even know it, then shit gets rough and crazy, and they answer the call and jump into action. All of you are these!!! You all help me visualize being on the other side of this. FUCK CANCER!!!

Speaking of fucking cancer, the treatment is working. I’ve had 4 now and the mass has shrunk to less than half the size it was in March. That’s amazing progress! I’ve added the weight back I lost at the start of this. Clinically, these are all good signs. From the start, this could’ve gone in a really bad direction, but everything the doctors at UCSF laid out has all gone according to plan in turning things around. I’m very grateful to these unsung heroes!

I’m slated for surgery 1 week from today on July 12th. Unfortunately it’ll be a full gastrectomy, but the good news is I’ll get to live which is definitely NOT overated. After recovery, I get 4 more treatments, then I can resume my life cancer-free.

I can’t wait to travel the world, playing music, enjoying every moment of this crazy journey!! I’ll check in soon again and share how thing’s are going. THANKS AND MUCH LOVE TO EVERYONE!!! CHEERS!!!!”

Exodus Are Now Planning To Release Their New Album “Persona Non Grata” In November

Exodus are now planning to release their new album “Persona Non Grata” in November. The band were previously planning to release the effort this summer, but have since delayed it following Tom Hunting’s cancer diagnosis.

Steve “Zetro” Souza said the following about the delay during a recent episode of his “Zetro’s Toxic Vault” series:

“I know a lot of you guys have said, ‘Oh, it was supposed to be out and released this summer,’ and it was — it was gonna be released this summer. But this has kind of put a damper in things a little bit. So, the decision from the band and the decision from management and the label and everybody — I mean, it makes sense.

It’s a career-defining record. You guys have not heard it yet, but it’s a career-defining album. And once you hear it, you will understand that. And it makes sense why we waited, so that he can be part of this. ‘Cause nobody’s thinking he’s not — he’s gonna fully recover from this. And we’ll be out kicking your asses once again.”

“Tom’s gonna have to have some treatment, and that’s actually already started. He told me that he wanted people to know so that if anybody’s experiencing these kinds of things, he wanted to open their eyes. And I thought that was great. I know you wanna keep it private and keep it to yourself, and it is a very heavy situation when something like this happens. But you definitely want to embrace that person and make sure that they’re comfortable through it.

Tom is one of the strongest guys I’ve ever met, if not the strongest guy. He lives in the mountains, and his training regimen is straight up out of ‘Rocky IV’. I mean, he chops wood, and he really chops wood. I could chop about three fucking logs if I was lucky, and I’m done. He’ll sit there and chop for ours. He’s a very strong guy, and we all know that he’s gonna beat this.”

GoFundMe Campaign For Exodus Drummer Tom Hunting Raises Over $80,000 In Less Than A Week

The GoFundMe campaign that was launched for Exodus drummer Tom Hunting following his cancer diagnosis has already raised over $80,000. Among the donations was $5,000 from Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and $1,500 from Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho.

Hunting thanked fans for their support on Facebook:

“Hey all. Tom from Exodus here. Just checking in. It’s April 26th. I’m in Northern California, where we just had six inches of snow fall last night. A little [Paul] Baloff birthday snow action.

Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you, everyone. I’m overcome with gratitude and emotion for the donations and all the love and support. I’m doing okay. I had a treatment a couple of weeks ago. I’m going in for another treatment on Wednesday. So far so good. It’s kind of early in the fight. But I feel like I’m gonna crush this like a bug.

Anyways, thanks again, everyone. I love you guys. And we’ll see you soon. Cheers.”

GoFundMe Campaign Launched For Exodus Drummer Tom Hunting Following Cancer Diagnosis

As previously reported, Exodus drummer Tom Hunting was recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach. Now, guitarist Gary Holt has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help him out with medical bills.

Holt commented:

“I’ve started a gofund me page for Tom Hunting, who as you may well know, is currently in the beginning phase of his battle against cancer , and you can imagine how the bills are going to stack up, co pays as well as home.

Some people will think “oh rock dudes with albums, must be rich” and shit, but Tom, like many others , worked during this pandemic and global shut down of the music industry. Some shill merch and memorabilia ( yours truly) while Tom, with a life time of experience working with his hands, is a builder. He does construction work on the side.

He can’t now and so let’s help keep him above water during this fight! I dropped a grand to get started( well, someone named Chris was first! Thanks Chris for giving before it was even posted! You rule!👊🏻) If you can help out, as well as share the link, that would be greatly appreciated! Much love from Tom and the Exodus camp🤘🏻”

Exodus Drummer Tom Hunting Diagnosed With Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Exodus’ Tom Hunting has revealed that he has been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach. The drummer went on to say that he will begin treatment for the disease today (April 13).

Hunting issued the following statement:

“Today I will be starting treatment for a squamous cell carcinoma. It’s a gastric tumor that was diagnosed in my upper stomach in February.

I’m making this public to raise awareness for people to pay attention to symptoms of stomach and esophageal issues. If they persist, please go get it checked out.

I’m not gonna be sheepish talking about it. I feel that if I can help someone with what I’ve learned, or someone out there has information to share with me, it’s a win-win! When you can name the enemy, it’s empowering, and you’re 1 step closer to killing it!

Ok, you’ve heard the bad news. The good news is he feels great physically! I’m gonna beat this like a fucking snare drum that owes me money!!! I’ve had great doctors and a great support system that is an army in itself. I’m ready for the fight!

We have a lot to celebrate this year with the release of what will be a career-defining album and tours to follow! I’m stoked for everyone to hear it, and even more excited to get out there and play some of it! I will see you all very soon! CHEERS!!!”

Steve “Zetro” Souza On New Exodus Album: “It’s Fucking Heavy As Shit”

Exodus frontman Steve “Zetro” Souza recently discussed the band’s new album, “Persona Non Grata,” in a new “Zetro’s Toxic Vault” video. The effort is expeted to be released this summer and Zetro had the following to say about it:

“The EXODUS fans are not gonna be disappointed. It’s fucking heavy as shit, it’s fast, it’s brutal, it’s violent. The lyrical content is very deep and very heavy. [Guitarist] Gary Holt wrote some really great compositions on this. And the whole band, as a band, performed really well on this. It seemed like we were all hungry again going after it. We were so excited to be together for some reason. We have Gary back, and we know that he’s not gonna be going away to tour [with SLAYER] anytime soon, so we knew that this was gonna be a very important record, which it is. And you’ll hear that when it finally gets released.”
