The Halo Effect (Ex-In Flames) Sign With Nuclear Blast Records

The Halo Effect, the new band featuring former In Flames members Mikael Stanne, Jesper Strömblad, Niclas Engelin, Peter Iwers, and Daniel Svensson, have officially signed with Nuclear Blast Records. The group’s first single “Shadowminds” will be released on November 9.

The band commented:

“Having grown up alongside Nuclear Blast in the early days of extreme metal, it just makes perfect sense for The Halo Effect to partner with this prestigous label. Our music holds true to our roots and what made us who we are today while trusting our shared experiences to move forward. Joining our old and new friends at Nuclear Blast Records is an honour and a privilege and we look forward to to releasing this labour of love for metal together!”

Nuclear Blast Europe‘s head of A&R Jens Prueter added:

“In 2009 I was going to Gothenburg to produce the ‘Where Death Is Most Alive‘ documentary for a Dark Tranquillity DVD. Getting deeper into the Gothenburg scene, going through hours of archive footage and listening to all the interviews, I though it was a jungle of incest.

In the early 90s a bunch of guys moved between In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Ceremonial Oath, Hammerfall and many more. We shouldn’t forget that most of the protagonists were still teenagers when they released their first ‘Desecrator‘ or ‘Septic Broiler‘ demo tapes. What looked like incest was just a group of friends who shared a deep passion for metal.

You could call it an all-star band but it’s basically just an all-family band. Listening to The Halo Effect is like going to a New Year’s dinner enjoying the best food and drinks of the year. And it’s a pleasure to be invited and share the joy with the rest of the world. Cheers!”

As previously reported, The Halo Effect will be opening for Amon Amarth and Machine Head on their co-headlining European/UK tour next year.

Former In Flames Members Announce New Band The Halo Effect

Ex-In Flames members Mikael Stanne, Jesper Strömblad, Niclas Engelin, Peter Iwers, and Daniel Svensson are planning to launch a new project called The Halo Effect. More details regarding the band’s plans are expected to be revealed soon.

In Flames Announce New Drummer

In Flames have recruited Joe Rickard (ex-RED, etc.) as their new drummer. He will be taking over for Daniel Svensson.

The band said the following:

“As you know — our longtime drummer, friend, and brother that is the almighty Daniel Svensson has left In Flames to pursue other dreams. He is still with us in spirit when we write our music, in our lives, and someone whom we will cherish forever. We are truly grateful for the nearly 20 years that Daniel devoted to In Flames.

Because of each other, we’ve grown exponentially as musicians and brothers. Our 12th studio album is the first we will release without Daniel since 1998, so entering the studio this time around was a bittersweet moment. At the time, we didn’t know who could even replace him, and making new music without him felt strange. We were missing a piece of In Flames.

From February to April of 2016 we recorded our newest album, “Battles” with legendary producer, Howard Benson. Howard and his team pushed our boundaries and kept our energy high every day while navigating us through a new process. Suddenly, we felt at home. Howard introduced us to one of his trusted and so talented studio drummers, Joe Rickard.

Joe had formerly been a member of Grammy nominated RED, toured with numerous bands such as Islander and RED, and has played drums on many successful albums for artists such as RED, Vamps, Starset, Brian “Head” Welch and our very own “Battles”.

Joe had such natural talent behind the kit; it seemed effortless. Once we witnessed him laying down drums to our own songs with parts we couldn’t have imagined better ourselves — we knew we had to have him join In Flames.

During nearly two months recording in Los Angeles with Howard Benson, Joe quickly became not only a musician that we highly respected, but also a friend. We are proud and excited to finally announce that Joe Rickard will be taking over the drums for In Flames. We feel by adding such a talented and pure musician to our band and brotherhood that we are doing Daniel a great justice in ensuring his hard work and talent will continue on.

Daniel, thank you for your incredible talent and time dedicated to this band and family that is In Flames. We are so honoured to have had the privilege of playing music with you all of these years and we couldn’t have achieved so much without you.

Jesterheads, please welcome Joe Rickard to In Flames and make him feel welcome! We will see you all out on the road very soon.”

Svensson issued the following statement:

“Time to turn the page..

I have decided to close my chapter in In Flames after finishing up this current tour.
It has truly been a fantastic journey and I want to thank Anders, Björn, Peter, Jesper and Niclas from the bottom of my heart, for all great memories and experiences that we’ve shared during the last 17 years(!) together.

It’s hard to leave what have become my second family, but now it’s time for me to take care and spend more time with the most important people in my life – my wife and my three daughters.

Perhaps some of you of will see me again, as I will start my very own brewery in a very near future. Something I am just as passionate about as In Flames.

I wish my friends in the band, the whole crew and everyone that’s working for In Flames the very best in the future. To you, all fans around the world, I want to say, thank you, massively, for all the support you have shown during my years in the band.

Daniel“
