Sum 41’s Dave “Brownsound” Baksh Says He Is Cancer Free Following Recent Surgery

Sum 41’s Dave “Brownsound” Baksh has revealed that he recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. Fortunately, the guitarist says he is now cancer free.

Baksh said the following:

“This one is a #thankyou letter to all of you. There was a time when I wasn’t sure if I could take part in our @sum41 @simpleplan @setitoff leg of #blamecanada Tour. Around March I found a lump and had it checked out, within two weeks I went through surgery in order to get rid of a tumour that ended up being #cancer Dont be concerned, my brush with this serious disease was very short lived thanks to the help of great doctors, a friend that helped me get a bone scan within weeks of my surgery, my family (extended included), the amazing people in #LDK (up the Kzinti!) and last but not least the emotional, physical and celery juice support that @krennykren and my wonderfully amazing gifted, did I mention wonderful kids gave me. Something incredible that this disease taught me is how many amazing and supportive people I have in my life. I’m beyond thankful for you and I’m forever in your debt. So as of now I’m cancer free and ready to enjoy tour life again with a fresh perspective on everything. If you have the time please pledge your support or join @krennykren and I at this year’s @relayforlife on Saturday #June11 We are attending in support of my mother who is beating cancer at this very moment and anyone else who’s life cancer has touched. Sum 41 Release Reimagined Version Of “Catching Fire” Featuring Nothing,Nowhere

Sum 41 have teamed up with nothing, nowhere for a reimagined version of their song “Catching Fire.” Frontman Deryck Whibley wrote the track for his wife Ari Whibley after she tried to take her own life. The updated take on the track was released as part of Mental Health Awareness Month and its official video features fan-submitted stories of loss.

Whibley commented:

“Writing this song was cathartic for me in dealing with my emotions for the first time about almost losing my wife to suicide. When I first played it for her, it was the beginning of us having an open conversation about what she went through. In sharing her story, we are hoping to let others know they are not alone and that if you need help, there is no shame in saying so.”

nothing,nowhere added:

“As someone who has had to deal with mental illness throughout my life, it was a no-brainer when Deryck approached me to get on this song. I think it’s important to let those close to you know that you love them and that you are there for them unconditionally. I’m a lifelong Sum 41 fan and I’m honored to be a part of something like this.”

The original version of “Catching Fire” appears on Sum 41’s latest album “Order In Decline.”
