Noctule (Svalbard) Streaming New Album “Wretched Abyss”

Svalbard’s Serena Cherry is streaming the debut album from her Noctule project, “Wretched Abyss,” in full via Kerrang!. You can check that out HERE. The record will officially be released on May 28. Cherry commented:

“National UK lockdown in 2020 meant two things for me: playing more guitar and playing more computer games! This album is the result of both of those things – a black metal album inspired by ‘Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.’ All these riffs, lyrics and melodies you hear on ‘Wretched Abyss‘ come straight from my heart, unfiltered. It was very liberating for me to write an album on my own, to indulge in all my weird ideas and grow them into songs. I learned a lot along the way – how to use Logic, how to programme drums and how to record vocals in a cupboard!”

Svalbard’s Serena Cherry Shares New Song “Labyrinthian” From Her Noctule Project

Svalbard’s Serena Cherry has shared a new song, titled “Labyrinthian,” from her Noctule project. This track is from her new album, “Wretched Abyss,” which will be released on May 28. Cherry commented:

“‘Labyrinthian‘ is a song about my favorite dungeon in ‘The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim,‘. It is an ode to the ancient Nordic ruin that was originally built by a dragon cult as a temple to the dragons. I love the haunting atmosphere in this dungeon, and the surprising twists and turns of the quest where you follow the group of ghostly mages through the dungeon. With this song I tried to capture the rich history of Laybrinthian, within the context of the overarching glory and sorrows of Winterhold. The intertwining guitar leads and the clean choral singing in this track are some of my proudest musical moments I’ve ever composed. The climax of the song is a musical illustration of the rising to the challenge to defeat Morokei and obtain the Staff of Magnus.”

Svalbard’s Serena Cherry Shares Music Video For “Wretched Abyss” From Her Noctule Project

Svalbard’s Serena Cherry will be releasing the debut album from her Noctule project, “Wretched Abyss,” on May 28. You can find a video for the effort’s title track below:

Cherry told Revolver the following about the song and video:

“‘Wretched Abyss‘ is a song about Hermaeus Mora — who is the daedric prince of fate, knowledge and memory in ‘Skyrim‘. He often appears in a Lovecraftian form of tentacles in the game, this imagery combined with his unsettling psychological questline is what inspired me to write this song.

The video was shot at The Gryphon, which is Bristol’s best heavy metal pub and venue. We filled the live room with smoke and candles to create that ethereal vibe. The video was filmed by David Gregory and James Morgan of Cineoteric Films.”
