I, The Breather’s Shawn Spann Seeking Help For His Mental Health Struggles

I, The Breather’s Shawn Spann has taken to social media to open up about his struggles with mental health issues. The frontman revealed that he is currently in a facility to receive help after suffering suicidal thoughts.

Spann said the following:

“Ugh this is so difficult to write.

I am currently heading to the Hospital due to suicidal thoughts. I can’t keep putting my family in situations where one moment I am fine and the next I completely lose control of myself. It’s been getting to the point where it’s happening daily and getting more intense with every episode and I can’t keep living like this. If I dont go, I fear that one day something can push me over the edge and that’ll be it.

One thing I will ask of y’all is if you can toss a couple bucks our way to help cover bills while I’m away. Having one income is only going to make a very stressful situation even harder on my wife and it kills me to know she has to go thru this with me but if we can take that stress from her shoulders I’d be so thankful.

Fucking Love you guys. I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have any updates…”

He has also shared a couple of updates:

“Little update:

So far the vampires have taken some of my blood and gave me a Covid test that I could taste my blood dropping down my throat from…

The Hospital is going to be sending me to another Hospital where they have very smart people for the next 3-4 days or however long my brain will take to be figured out. I get to ride in an ambulance, so that’s cool I guess. I will be staying in my current location until a room opens up for me. So in the mean time I’m gonna order my $300 dollar lunch and hopefully close my eyes for a little.

Your guys support has brought me to literal tears today…

I know my wife and family appreciate everything you guys have done for us so far too.

This has been the toughest decision of my life but change must come. Here’s to not being Sad Dad anymore.

LOVE YOU ALL”

“Update:

Wow. You guys are incredible and I’m so thankful for you all. I am allowed 10 min of cell phone use each day but Catherine Ellen Spann can read me your stuff while I’m in here as I have a room phone. Your support has been so humbling and I will be replying to everyone asap. Have been loving the positive messages, they help more than you know.

I see a team today who is basically gonna be studying me to figure out my mentals. I will be away for a bit sadly but it’s for the better.

Love you all.”

I, The Breather Frontman Shawn Spann Discusses Moving Away From The Christian Metal Scene

I, The Breather’s Shawn Spann has issued a new statement to explain the band’s decision to move away from the Christian metal scene. The frontman said that he has “spent many years in the Christian industry” and that it “was enough time for [him] to see how corrupt it is.”

Spann said the following:

“I’ve been straying away from this question for some time and after years, I feel ready to whoop this elephant in the rooms ass and move forward.

I spent many years in the Christian industry. That was enough time for me to see how corrupt it is. Ive played festivals that refused to feed us, I’ve had friends in other bands be spat on by “Christians” for smoking a cigarette back stage.

I’ve been called almost every name in the book for not being what some call an ideal christian. I’ve seen things by other Christian acts that made my blood boil and put my faith into question. In my honest opinion… We all deserve to love our God and not be judged CONSTANTLY by others for said beliefs.

So for those who keep asking why we walked away from that industry. Well that’s your answer. We’re not another band who ran from faith, we ran from the assholes involved in it. I am choosing to put my energy else where.

This doesn’t mean my faith has changed, it just means my energy is going else where. It means that I respect your faith and wish you to respect mine. Love your life loving your God and I will do so as mine. It’s that simple… I’m ready to move on with my life without constantly feeling judged.

So, you may wonder, Well where are you now? What will you be focus on?

My main focus from today forward is 100000% behind Mental Illness. I have battled this demon for so long, it’s usually all I can focus on. I have a beautiful family and good life and yet this illness still puts me to the ground with suicidal thoughts at times. It’s scary and something I wish upon no one.

So going forward… I hope you can all understand why I am going down a different road. I hope you can understand why my lyrics are pissed and a lot less held back. I have to be true to myself while trying to help others battle this same war.

It’s not easy with a family behind you, let alone when you feel isolated and alone in your fight. I want to help those of you feeling that way. I want to be your beacon of hope, your brother and someone you can turn to when you just need to talk. I could care less about your beliefs, all I want is to be a brother. We are all in this life together and it’s time we respect each other as so.

If me being able to help one or two of you fulfill a life full of happiness, I can go to my grave feeling as if I have done my duty here.
Love you all!!!

We’ve come to the collective decision that it is time to bring I, the Breather’s 6-year career to a close.
After performing on three different continents, participating in major national tours such as Vans Warped Tour and Rockstar Mayhem Festival, and releasing three albums that bring us immense pride, we have accomplished our goals as a band. Truthfully, we never expected to have been able to do a fraction of these things when we started. We all have goals that we are currently pursuing – some of us will continue to carve out our paths in the music industry and some of us have out our focus elsewhere.

We’re happy to announce this farewell run with our friends Chasing Safety & Novelists. We may also have a few other things in the works that we will announce later on. If we’ve brought any value to you, we’d absolutely love to celebrate I, the Breather’s career with you at the upcoming shows. We’ve got some surprises planned for a few of the dates in particular.

Thank you to everyone who has shown us support in any way. We couldn’t have done this without you. You have been just as big of a part of I, the Breather as we have.
Love,

Shawn, Conor, Kyle, Aaron“
