Matt Pike (High On Fire, Sleep) To Release “Head On A Pike: The Illustrated Lyrics Of Matt Pike”

Matt Pike (High On Fire, Sleep) will be releasing a new book titled “Head On A Pike: The Illustrated Lyrics Of Matt Pike” on November 9 via Rare Bird. The effort will feature visual representations of Pike‘s lyrics from artists such as Arik Roper, David V. D’Andrea, Santos, Brian Mercer, Skinner, Jondix, Stash, Tim Lehi, Jordan Barlow, and Derrick Snodgrass. Rare Bird’s Tyson Cornell commented:

“Matt Pike’s lyrics are just as important and powerful as his riffs, and his words deserve to be celebrated alongside the fantastic imagery that the artists have put together in this book. ‘Head On A Pike‘ is a natural for any Sleep, High On Fire or Matt Pike fan, but the work is also relevant to greater conversations around lyrical poetry, formal and free verse and tattoo inspirations for years to come.”

Drummer Des Kensel Exits High On Fire

Des Kensel has announced his departure from High On Fire. The drummer said he is leaving to focus on “new opportunities and spending time with [his] family.”

Here’s Kensel’s full statement:

“As a founding member of High on Fire, I feel blessed to have spent the last 21 years traveling around the world pursuing my childhood dream to write and play music. After eight albums, countless tours, and a Grammy win, I am very thankful for what we have been able to accomplish as a band.

Being a full time professional musician can have its challenges. One gets through those challenges with patience, hard work and perseverance. After much consideration, it is time for me to announce that I will no longer be performing with High on Fire. I will now be focusing on new opportunities and spending time with my family.

I would like to sincerely thank all of our fans for your support throughout the years. Without you, none of this would have been possible.

Lastly, I would like to wish my band-mates the best of luck in the future.”
