High On Fire Drop Off Tour With Municipal Waste As Matt Pike Faces Partial Toe Amputation

High On Fire have dropped off their co-headlining tour with Municipal Waste due to a medical emergency involving Matt Pike. The guitarist/vocalist will be undergoing a “partial amputation of one of his toes.”

High On Fire commented:

“Matt has a medical emergency culminating in the partial amputation of one of his toes. The scheduling of this procedure is immediate and the recovery time will overlap our intended tour with MW. We will unfortunately be unable to participate in this tour but will be back stronger than ever in 2019!”

Municipal Waste added:

“First and foremost we wish our friend Matt the best of luck with his recovery. We need him, the metal world in general needs him. We would much rather have him miss a tour to heal up rather than not having any more Matt Pike music in the future. High On Fire‘s new album is amazing and we love him and his band mates so much. That being said after much discussion us Toxic [Holocaust] and Haunt are still going to do the tour. It just makes sense, why make something negative worse? Get better Matt we love you.”

High On Fire Stream New Song “Spewn From The Earth”

High On Fire are streaming a new song titled “Spewn From The Earth.” The track is from the band’s new album “Electric Messiah” (out October 5) and it will also be available as part of the Adult Swim Singles Series. Matt Pike commented:

“Cryogenically frozen giant kings of old, awake and smash through the bowels of Earth to free themselves in a campaign to usurp their throne from man, and impregnate the populace once again.”

High On Fire Reveal Details For New Album “Electric Messiah”

High On Fire have announced that their new album “Electric Messiah” will be released on October 5. You can find the cover art and track listing for that below. You can also stream the title track over at NPR.

“Electric Messiah” Track Listing:

01. “Spewn From The Earth”
02. “Steps Of The Ziggurat/House Of Enlil”
03. “Electric Messiah”
04. “Sanctioned Annihilation”
05. “The Pallid Mask”
06. “God Of The Godless”
07. “Freebooter”
08. “The Witch And The Christ”
09. “Drowning Dog“

Matt Pike said the following about the effort’s title, which was influenced by the late Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead):

“I had a dream about Lemmy. When Lemmy was still alive I always got compared to Lemmy, so I had this dream where he got pissed at me.

He gave me a bunch of shit, basically, and was hazing me. Not that he didn’t approve of me, but like I was being hazed. The song is me telling the world that I could never fill Lemmy’s shoes because Lemmy’s Lemmy. I wanted to pay homage to him in a great way. And it turned out to be such a good title that the guys said we should call the album ‘Electric Messiah.’”

He also added the following about the album:

“This band keeps evolving. This is by far the best record I’ve ever made with the High On Fire stamp. It just keeps getting better and better. We just try to outdo ourselves. I’m not saying the old work is progressively worse, it’s just that we get better every time instead of burning out, which is a common finality for a lot of bands. This album is fucking excellent, I just love everything on it, I’m not bummed about anything. It’s great when you think that about your record.”

High On Fire Planning To Release New Album “Electric Messiah” In September

During a recent interview with DCHeavyMetal.com, Matt Pike confirmed that High On Fire‘s new album will be called “Electric Messiah.” The effort is expected to be released in September.

Pike said the following about the album:

“It’s the best album we’ve ever done, by far. It’s ridiculous. And I’m really proud of that. So to do Sleep The Sciences and that album, between 2017 [and] 2018 that’s two albums that I’m really fucking proud of in one year. I’ve been working hard. I haven’t had any time to myself til recently. This is my month off and then pretty much I’m on tour all the way up til next year. And then I’m sure I’ll be making plans for next year in the next week here or something. It is by far the best High on Fire record ever which is hard to believe but it’s fucking bad ass, heh heh heh.”

He also added:

“I think there’s ten tracks, eleven tracks. It depends cause there’s a bunch of songs, like I wrote a Sumerian anunnaki rock opera that actually is two songs but they’re separate tracks. And then there’s a lot of slash songs. There’s a lot of songs that– you know [how] Opeth will have like one song but it makes like three songs if you really think about it?”

He continued:

“It’s kind of a bunch of shit like that because we’ve had this conscious stream of riffs and we put it together. I like when I do High on Fire records to have a lot of interludes and weird shit going on so you never lose focus but it’s constantly changing. It’s a lot like, Death Is This Communion is like that. There’s tracks that don’t have names but, they’re there. It’s just one stream of High on Fire consciousness and it’s fucking good, that’s all. I’m really stoked on that record.”

Pike also revealed that the group are planning a co-headlining tour with Municipal Waste:

“I think we’re going to be on tour with Municipal Waste. Cause we’ve been kind of beating a dead horse, dead in the water for a while so we’re doing a co-headline [tour]. Municipal Waste dudes are our good friends so we figured we’ll just punch the country together, swap spots and no one gets tired and all that stuff and yeah, it should be good. I want to get High on Fire rolling again so it’s full throttle. We took a lot of time to write this record, really make it good.”
