Black Star Riders Premiere New Song “Pay Dirt”

Black Star Riders have premiered a new song titled “Pay Dirt.” This track is from the band’s new album “Wrong Side Of Paradise,” which will be released on January 20. Ricky Warwick commented:

“We are overjoyed to be able to give you another track from our upcoming album ‘Wrong Side Of Paradise’. ‘Pay Dirt’ is available for your listening pleasure on your favorite streaming service now. Christian Martucci and the late Todd Youth wrote the music for this. And when I heard it, it stank with defiance and attitude. It didn’t need changing, just some words to echo the power of the chords. It’s an ode to rock ‘n’ roll… but also a dig at those that don’t learn their art and don’t play from the heart!! Rock ‘n’ roll is my lover, friend, enemy, ally, religion and savior. Rock ‘n’ roll is my life. We hope you love it.”

Black Star Riders Share Music Video For New Song “Better Than Saturday Night” Featuring Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott

Black Star Riders have premiered a new video for their new song “Better Than Saturday Night.” This track features Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott and it will appear on the band’s new album “Wrong Side Of Paradise,” which is set to be released on January 20, 2023.

Black Star Riders frontman Ricky Warwick commented:

“‘Better Than Saturday Night’ is a feel-good, uplifting tune about staying strong in the face of adversity, being true to yourself, and the power of positivity. I wrote it for my kids, but subliminally I think I also wrote it for myself and everyone for those days when we need to find a little bit of extra strength. We wanted to reflect the positivity, power, attitude and strength to endure sentiment in the lyrics of the song. And no better way to do that than Black Star Riders rockin’ out with the Los Angeles Roller Derby Dolls.”

He also added the following about the album:

“I am very proud of this record, Black Star Riders’ fifth release and the first with our new and exciting relationship with Earache Records. As with all BSR albums, ‘Wrong Side Of Paradise’ is an anthemic statement of intent, driven by ferocious guitars and thundering drums. I can only write about my own personal experiences, my families, my friends and how I see a world that is unraveling and changing faster than we can comprehend. That being said, I’m a firm believer in the power of positivity, something that echoes throughout this album.”

In other news, the band have also announced a UK tour with Michael Monroe and Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons. Warwick said the following about that:

“Can you believe 2023 is 10 years of Black Star Riders? How time flies while you are having fun! We decided to do something special to commemorate this occasion. For the U.K. tour only, to coincide with the album’s release, we will be bringing back the legendary Scott Gorham (guitar) and Jimmy DeGrasso (drums) for the dates to make them extra special!

“As we all know, the worldwide pandemic has changed so many things in all our lives, and when we brought Christian Martucci into the fold in 2018, we had planned to work the BSR cycle in rotation with Christian’s Corey Taylor / Stone Sour gig so he could do both. The two-year break in live music has unfortunately put paid to this plan and Christian has had to leave Black Star Riders to concentrate on his work with Corey. We wish him all the best and he will forever remain part of the BSR family.”

Black Star Riders Finish New Album

During a recent interview with Overdrive, Black Star Riders’ Ricky Warwick revealed that the band have finished their new album. The effort is currently “expected to be released in January 2023.”

Warwick said the following:

“The album is actually finished right now and is currently being mastered. There are fourteen new tracks on it and we worked with [producer] Jay Ruston who did ‘Another State…’ here in L.A. and it’s sounding great. Of course, this was the first BSR album without Uncle Scotty [guitarist Scott Gorham] which was strange. He’s been on the phone every now and again, checking in on things and I’ve sent him over the tracks to get his approval and whatnot. We definitely missed his presence in the studio, but I think we’ve adapted and brought everything down to a four-piece.”

He also added:

“I’m very excited about the album, and we’re looking to release the first single this coming September. We’ve also signed a new deal with Earache Records and the album is expected to be released in January 2023 and we’re gonna hit the ground running.”

Scott Gorham Issues New Statement Regarding His Departure From Black Star Riders

Scott Gorham has issued a new statement regarding his departure from Black Star Riders. The guitarist left the group to focus on Thin Lizzy.

Gorham said the following:

“As you all are now aware, I have decided to leave Black Star Riders to concentrate on putting Thin Lizzy on the road again next year (which will include Ricky Warwick). Leaving a close-knit working environment, shared with good friends over 8 years is never easy, but I felt that the time was right, especially knowing that Ricky and the band and how great they are, would be in no danger at all to carry on without me. I am certain that they will build on past successes and I look forward to listening to their new album.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of our fans for your fantastic support over the years, we always had a blast touring and being able to shake hands with so many of you in person. Thank you also to all the well-wishers who have posted such great comments on the web – it was very much appreciated. There has been some speculation regarding the state of my health, so I’d like to let you all know that I am very well, having had the 2 covid jabs and getting my flu shot tomorrow and trying to improve my game of golf, which has gone south recently… unfortunately.

Regarding Thin Lizzy concerts in 2022 – this is currently in the planning stages and I will make sure to let you know of our progress regarding line-ups and dates.

Once again, I miss you all and thank you all and hopefully see you all very soon.

Alright then… who’s buying?!”

Black Star Riders Sign With Earache Records, Part Ways With Scott Gorham

Black Star Riders have signed a new deal with Earache Records. With this news, the band have also confirmed that they have parted ways with guitarist Scott Gorham.

Here’s an official press release:

“US-based hard rock group BLACK STAR RIDERS have signed a multi-album Worldwide recording deal with the long running British independent label Earache Records.

BLACK STAR RIDERS were formed by members of legendary Irish rock group THIN LIZZY in 2013 and have released four albums on the Nuclear Blast label in their eight years in existence and toured the World as both headliners and special guests to some of the most prominent names in rock. The band have since become a pillar in the modern rock landscape in their own right, owing to their Herculean stage presence and meticulous attention to detail in carving out their own identity within the depths of their jagged-edged anthems, epic ballads and Celtic-infused rockers.

With their commitments to Nuclear Blast complete, BLACK STAR RIDERS have inked a long-term Worldwide recording deal with Earache Records, the label responsible for putting extreme metal on the map in the ’80s and ’90s, and in more recent times helping to build the careers of modern rock acts such as RIVAL SONS and THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT.

BLACK STAR RIDERS front man Ricky Warwick comments: ‘We are extremely pleased to announce our new deal with Earache records. We had an amazing 8 years with Nuclear Blast and I want to thank everyone there for their commitment and dedication during this time but it was time to part ways and Earache have well and truly stepped up to the plate! We can’t wait to start the new relationship with the great team there.’

BLACK STAR RIDERS are due to enter the studio in LA on October 14th with long-term producer Jay Ruston (STONE SOUR, STEEL PANTHER, URIAH HEEP & ANTHRAX) to begin recording the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Another State of Grace’. The band have a host of UK Top 30 albums, including the UK #6 album ‘Heavy Fire’, which featured a BBC Radio 2 single of the week and also won Best British Album at Planet Rock Radio’s The Rocks awards.

The new album will feature a different lineup from the band’s previous releases, due to founder and lead guitarist Scott Gorham’s decision to step down from all recording and touring commitments with the band.

Ricky Warwick adds ‘We are very sorry to see Scott go but we discussed a very heavy World touring commitment on the new record and Scott decided he wanted to concentrate just on Thin Lizzy – and being the legend he is none of us can blame him. We all wish him the best and he will be looking to put Thin Lizzy back out on the road from 2022 onwards with a busy schedule, so he won’t be missing me too much!’

The band have announced LA Drummer Zak St. John will be joining them to record the new album.

BSR Bass Player Robert Crane ‘We have known Zak a while from the LA session scene and I know he will blow everyone away when you see and hear him’

The band are not looking to replace Scott Gorham and will remain a four piece going forwards with Ricky handling a lot of the guitar parts alongside Christian Martucci, who joined the band after album number three in 2018.

BLACK STAR RIDERS are set to release, their yet untitled fifth album, in early 2023 and dates are booked to start within a couple of weeks of release.

Christian Martucci comments ‘We have decided to let the abundance of rescheduled shows in 2022 blow over so we can come back in full force in 2023 without any distractions. We can’t wait to see all our fans and followers again after what seems like an eternity off the road and we appreciate no end their continued support and loyalty to BSR.’”

Black Star Riders Hoping To Record New Album This Summer

During a recent interview with Talking Metal, Ricky Warwick offered an update on the new Black Star Riders album. He said the following:

“We have written the next BLACK STAR RIDERS album. It’s done. It’s demoed. We’re just waiting for when it’s safe that we can all come together and get into the studio, which will be here in L.A. with [producer] Jay Ruston again, and actually record the thing. So I’m hoping this summer we’ll be able to get in and get it recorded.”

Black Star Riders Premiere “Candidate For Heartbreak” Lyric Video

Black Star Riders have premiered a lyric video for their new single “Candidate For Heartbreak.” The track previously appeared as a bonus track on the digipack CD that was included with the limited edition box set edition of the band’s latest album “Another State Of Grace.”

The following was said about the track:

“2020 shaped up to be a very different year to what we all expected. COVID-19 took us by surprise forced us to pause, rethink our way of life and observe an unprecedented scenario unraveling on the world’s stage. In this new “hibernated” society, the music industry showed its resilience: managing to keep itself alive, it created a sense of togetherness and an even stronger community, through brave songs, never afraid to bring the uncomfortable truths to the table.

Candidate For Heartbreak is Black Star Riders’ contribution to the worldwide reflection on society during these unparalleled times. Mr. Scott Gorham and Christian Martucci created the perfect soundscape, thanks to a sharp and memorable riff, which sets the scene for an intricate rock driven track. Ricky Warwick’s vocals perfectly represent the spirit of the lyrics: energetic anger, tinged with a hint of melancholy, towards a class of politicians who keep lying to the people; and a morbid system that keeps on failing and dividing.”

Members of the band also shared individual comments:

Ricky Warwick:

“It’s a rocker! A Scott Gorham and Christian Martucci guitar onslaught. A song about the politics of dancing while the politicians dance around the truth!”

Scott Gorham:

“The song brings back memories of our time in the studio recording Another State of Grace. It was such a great and productive time. We all hope to be back playing to our fans real soon.”

Christian Martucci:

“This is a really fun song to jam. I love how the guitars drone around Ricky’s vocals, and the awesome groove from Chad and Robbie!’”

Black Star Riders Premiere “In The Shadow Of A War Machine” Video

Black Star Riders have premiered a new video for their song “In The Shadow Of A War Machine.” This track is from the band’s latest album “Another State Of Grace.”

A press release offered more info on the song:

“[The track] describes the condition in which we all currently live in — a world where economical interest prevails over the common good; a world where we are forced to face constant uncertainties.

As the band say, ‘vote for a clown, you have a circus.’ The music perfectly reflects the content — the pounding rhythm of each verse echoes the oppression of the war machine, the heavier and more aggressive chorus underlines the frustration we feel rising every day.”
