Liquid Tension Experiment (Dream Theater, Etc.) Premiere “Hypersonic” Video

Liquid Tension Experiment, the band featuring Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, etc.), and Tony Levin (King Crimson, etc.), have premiered a new video for their new song “Hypersonic.” This track is from the group’s new album “LTE3,” which will now be released on April 16.

The band commented:

Portnoy:

“’Hypersonic’ was the last song we composed of the four new compositions. We knew we needed an opener that was just going to take peoples’ heads off from the minute you hit play. It’s kind of a cross between ‘Acid Rain’ and ‘Paradigm Shift’ mixed with a lot of ‘The Dance of Eternity’ kind of insanity. We purposely threw everything including the kitchen sink into that one.

Petrucci:

“As we were putting the album together, we all felt that there needed to be a track that had some chops and speed and that frantic nervous energy that a song like ‘Paradigm Shift’ from the first LTE album or ‘Acid Rain’ from LTE2 had – something heavy and full of energy. This song definitely checks off that box.”

Rudess:

“I remember how this one started – Petrucci head down at the guitar bringing this crazy riff to life, and things proceeding with great inspiration after that. Sometimes inspiration takes you on a ride and the whole chromatic moving section with chordal variation rushed out of all of us. This piece also features a totally written counterpoint thing at 4:10. Add some mad unisons and some Levin inspired, Zappa-like madness and you have a tune called ‘Hypersonic!’”

Levin:

“I think I heard the guys saying, ‘let’s get more nuts with the opening riffs than we did on the previous albums.’ For me it’s time to pull out the Stick – the only way I have a chance to keep up. Our usual plan is enacted here – blazing fast sections lead to melodic areas you want to sing along with but can’t because there are so many twists and turns.”

Liquid Tension Experiment (Dream Theater, Etc.) Delay New Album “LTE3” To April

Liquid Tension Experiment, the band featuring Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, etc.), and Tony Levin (King Crimson, etc.), have delayed their new album, “LTE3,” due to printing errors. The effort will now be released on April 16.

Portnoy commented:

“Good News & Bad News:

Bad news first: Due to printing errors by the manufacturer we have the unfortunate news of sharing that we must push back the planned release date of LTE3 from March 26th to April 16th. This news came as a surprise to us and we have spent the last week working to resolve the situation but ultimately we had no other options. We appreciate the support and feedback so far on the songs we have released and can’t wait for you to finally hear the full album when it’s released on 4/16/21. We’ve all waited 22 years for this, what’s 3 more weeks? Better LaTE than never! 😎

Now some Good news: In the meantime, we hope you’ll enjoy another look at the LTE band interview included in the deluxe box-set and Blu-ray art-book, this time on the recent single ‘Beating the Odds'”

Liquid Tension Experiment (Dream Theater, Etc.) Premiere “Beating The Odds” Video

Liquid Tension Experiment, the band featuring Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, etc.), and Tony Levin (King Crimson, etc.), have premiered a new video for their new song “Beating The Odds.” This track is from the group’s new album “LTE3,” which will be released on March 26.

The band commented:

Petrucci:

“This was a riff that I brought into the sessions that I thought was interesting because it’s in an odd time and phrased in a way that is hard to wrap your head around at first until you understand where the groove is. When I first presented it to the guys, their initial reaction was ‘how are you feeling that?’ When the band enters after the opening riff, it probably sounds a little ‘odd’ because the time signature is a bit unclear until the song gets going. If LTE ever had a ‘prog pop hit’ this would be it.”

Rudess:

“I remember the look of confusion on ALL our faces when JP started playing that opening riff! It’s was seemingly so straight ahead but with a bizarre rhythmic twist! Took a while to internalize that, but then we all loved it! One of the great things about LTE is the fact that we just let ourselves loose and have FUN!”

Portnoy:

“‘Beating The Odds’ is the second song we wrote in the LTE3 sessions. I jokingly referred to it as ‘the feel-good song of the pandemic’ in the studio as it has a very upbeat happy feel to it…but also takes a few cool musical twists and turns ranging from the glorious melodic chorus and end vamp to the dark driving solo sections.”

Levin:

“Starts with an off-step riff, kind of like walking upstairs backward, but at the repeat you get it. Then it opens up into ‘anthem land.’ Later there are unison bass lines where both Jordan and John got flangy sounds that work well with the bass. Mike’s unstoppable energy is evident here, and we’ve got more fantastic J&J solos. At only five and a half minutes, we start fading out… a short song by our standards. But we’re just getting warmed up.”

Liquid Tension Experiment (Dream Theater, Etc.) Premiere New Song “The Passage Of Time”

Liquid Tension Experiment, the band featuring Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, etc.), and Tony Levin (King Crimson, etc.), have premiered a new song titled “The Passage Of Time.” This track is from the group’s new album “LTE3,” which will be released on March 26.

The band commented:

Portnoy:

“‘The Passage of Time‘ was the very first song we composed together when we reunited this past summer. It was so exciting to be back in a room creating together again after so long (22 years for all 4 of us and over 10 years for the 3 of us since being together in DT). This serves as a great first taste for the listeners as it combines so many of the musical elements that makes LTE unique.”

Petrucci:

“This was the first song we worked on and when it was done, we all knew once again how amazing it was to be working together. We knew we were on to something and that this was going to be a really amazing album. Nothing about the passage of over two decades could’ve done anything to change that. To me this song truly reflects the collaborative songwriting efforts of all four of us.”

Rudess:

“There is an undeniable chemistry that happens when the four of us are together. Entering the studio and starting work on ‘The Passage of Time‘ after 22 years literally gave me a whole new perspective on these important musical (and personal) relationships and the way time is so relative. We just jumped right in, it was like no time had passed at all, and we created a song that has so many of the elements that make LTE unique. Not a day has gone by since our last release when I wasn’t asked, “When is LTE getting back together again?” Now we can finally deliver, and I can’t wait for everybody to hear our creation.”

Levin:

“From the murky depths of the lockdown, LTE has re-emerged, galvanized, dripping with ideas, and taking no prisoners. ‘The Passage of Time‘ is just the beginning.”
