Haunted Shores (Periphery) Premiere New Song “OnlyFangs”

Haunted Shores, the instrumental death/black metal project featuring Periphery’s Mark Holcomb and Misha Mansoor, have premiered a new song titled “OnlyFangs.” This track is from the the band’s new album “Void,” which which will be released on March 11.

Holcomb commented:

“I wrote the main riffs for this directly after I demo’d ‘Hellfire‘. Again, just a pissed off, hateful song that summed up a lot of panic and uncertainty I had over the early stages of the pandemic. I had originally written a completely different outro for the song that kicked in after the 2nd pre-chorus section.

But when I brought the demo to Misha, we scrapped it and he wrote this much cooler, dissonant groove that grew into what I find to be one of the more memorable climaxes on the album. The intro was inspired by something I heard years ago from this band called Scarve, Dirk Verbeuren‘s old band actually, where it’s not even a traditional riff that kicks things off, but more of this spastic energy with jarring chord changes and accents to make things uncomfortable.

Writing that kind of thing isn’t one of my strengths, but a goal for this record was to try and get outside of my own comfort zone. The gradual slowdown at the end of the song is something Misha and I have been trying to work into a song for years. We did it to a lesser extent on Periphery‘s ‘Masamune‘, but the idea for this part was just to go full-on grime and dirt, all while down-tuning our guitars with each repetition at the end. That outro always makes me smile.”

Haunted Shores (Periphery) Premiere New Song “Nocturnal Hours”

Haunted Shores, the instrumental death/black metal project featuring Periphery’s Mark Holcomb and Misha Mansoor, have premiered a new song titled “Nocturnal Hours.” This track features Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) and it will appear on the band’s new album, “Void,” which is set be released on March 11. Holcomb commented:

“‘Nocturnal Hours’ is a special track. We began writing parts for it years ago, but never fully nailed the arrangement until the writing sessions for ‘Void.’ It’s meant to be a direct not to early 2000s Opeth, namely the Blackwater Park record. Misha and I have worshipped that album for 20 years, and when the song started to take on qualities that vaguely resembled that sound, we said ‘fuck it’ and ran with it. Once our friend Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) laid down his phenomenal saxophone solo it instantly became an album favorite.”

Haunted Shores (Periphery) To Release New Album “Void” In March, Premiere New Song “Hellfire”

Holcomb commented:

“We’re proud to announce the upcoming release of our new record, ‘Void.’ Misha and I have wanted to do another Haunted Shores album for quite some time, and we finally made the time necessary to focus on these songs. I have always loved writing Haunted Shores songs, but this one in particular feels special – a little crazier, a little more unhinged, and in my opinion, a step above what we’ve done in the past. ‘Hellfire’ was the first song we demo’d for the record, and in many ways it sets the table for the record in its intent and spirit. I can’t wait for people to hear the rest of it.”
