Haken Premiere New Song “Nightingale”

Haken have premiered a new song titled “Nightingale.” You can check that out below:

The band commented:

“‘Nightingale‘ was the first track Pete Jones presented to the band after rejoining Haken this year. The initial song idea quickly inspired of the classic Haken sound and naturally evolved into some new harmonic territory. The song ranges from delicate moments to monstrous riffs.

We enlisted Jens Bogren to mix ‘Nightingale‘ and, as always, he’s blown us away by capturing every detail while delivering power and energy. We couldn’t be happier with the finished product.

Lyrically, the song reflects on the creative process itself; with a message that although it may be difficult of late, we must remember to be thankful for the positives in life; be they big or small.”

Keyboardist Pete Jones Rejoins Haken

Keyboardist Pete Jones has officially rejoined Haken. He will be replacing Diego Tejeida, who recently exited the group.

The band commented:

“We are truly thrilled to welcome Pete back into Haken. Pete is a phenomenally gifted musician and, in the short time since his return, he has breathed new life into the band, inspiring us to explore fresh and exciting musical territory. This is a new era for Haken and we cannot wait to share it with all of you!”

Jones added:

“I’m thrilled to rejoin the fellowship, after following the band closely over the years and watching them grow. It was great to reconnect with Rich on the Nova Collective record, and then to work more closely with the guys over the past couple of Haken albums. I can’t wait for the next chapter, and am pumped to be a part of it!”

Haken Part Ways With Keyboardist Diego Tejeida

Haken have parted ways with Diego Tejeida. The keyboardist exited the group due to musical differences.

The band commented:

“Dear all, we unfortunately have to announce that Diego is leaving us for pastures new. We’d like to thank him for sharing the journey with us so far and we couldn’t be more proud of the music we’ve created over the years. We are so grateful for all of the accomplishments, adventures and good times we’ve shared together. But never fear! Haken will continue with its mission to bring you the music we are passionate about (and we’ll have news on that soon), but in the meantime, join us in wishing Diego all the best in his future musical adventures.”

Tejeida added:

“I am very proud of what Charlie, Conner, Ray, Richard, Ross, and I have accomplished together. Looking back from the point where the band is now, it’s crazy to think that almost 13 years ago, we were a local London band with big dreams, playing to small crowds. With every album and every show, we grew immensely as both musicians and individuals. However, as in every human relationship, sometimes people grow apart.

Over the past years, it has become undeniable that the other band members and I have very different musical visions. These differences reached a turning point. In order for both parties to continue the pursuit of their musical careers, it is necessary to part ways. For this reason, my journey with Haken has come to a close. It is time for me to follow my heart and walk towards my own musical vision.

To all the fans from all over the world who have followed me and supported me on my musical journey thus far–thank you. Your support and enthusiasm have made many hours in the studio and many months away from home worthwhile. Now, I invite you to come along for another musical ride. During the pandemic, I’ve been writing music for a brand new project, together with some dear friends of mine. Some of them will be familiar faces. Stay tuned.

Diego“

Haken Premiere “Invasion” Video

Haken have premiered a new video for their new song “Invasion.” This track is from the band’s new album “Virus,” which is now set to be released on June 19. The group said the following:

“Lyrically, ‘Invasion‘ deals with themes including but not limited to anxiety, depression and suicidal tendencies. We thought that the discussion of a ‘virus of the mind’ tied in well to the psychological themes touched upon in the sister record ‘Vector‘ and lent itself to the character development of Virus‘s manic protagonist.”

Haken Premiere Animated Video For New Song “Canary Yellow”

Haken have premiered an animated video for their new song “Canary Yellow.” This track is from the band’s new album “Virus,” which will be released on June 5.

The group commented:

“For ‘Canary Yellow’, we went in a more alternative direction, since we’re all big fans of bands like Radiohead, Elbow and Peter Gabriel. Those are artists who can portray quite dark subject matter through really beautiful music. Since the ‘Virus’ album is intended to be a metaphor for various negative tropes of society, we wanted to explore this idea in a variety of ways. ‘Canary Yellow’ deals with the suppression of physical and mentally abusive relationships; something that can often remain hidden behind a seemingly happy facade.

We once again returned to longtime visual collaborators Crystal Spotlight for this ambitious animation and we’re absolutely thrilled with how well the visuals complement and enhance the atmosphere of the song. The video shows a seemingly idyllic family environment, but with a sense of sadness beneath the surface and absolute devastation looming on the horizon. They go about their day oblivious to the fact that they are mannequins living in a 1950s-style ‘Doom Town’ experiment.”

The band will also be going in-depth on how “Canary Yellow” was written and produced during a livestream on Twitch on May 8 at 6 p.m. U.K. time.

Haken Premiere “Prosthetic” Music Video, Reveal Details For New Album “Virus”

Haken have premiered a new video for their new song “Prosthetic.” This track is from the band’s new album “Virus,” which will be released on June 5.

The group commented:

“‘Prosthetic‘ was the first song we completed during the ‘Virus‘ writing sessions and we always felt it would be the perfect opener for the album. It’s a very guitar heavy track with its roots in 80s thrash riffing, but with the unconventional rhythmic twists and turns we often like to explore in Haken. We sadly never had a Jeff Hanneman and Robert Fripp collaboration, but this song at least draws on inspiration from them both!

Lyrically the song is a bridge between our two albums ‘Vector‘ and ‘Virus‘. The message was brilliantly brought to life by video director Vicente Cordero, who also beautifully captured the live energy of the band in a way that both enhances the song, and perfectly sets the scene for what’s to come.”

Drummer Ray Hearne added:

“Since releasing ‘The Mountain‘ in 2013, one question has been asked of us time and time again, ‘who is the Cockroach King?’. This is something we were interested in exploring more deeply too, so we essentially did that through our music; elaborating and expanding upon the intervallic, harmonic, rhythmic and lyrical themes of that song. The end result is in an arc which spans across two albums: ‘Vector‘ and ‘Virus‘.”

Haken To Release New Live EP In December

Haken will be releasing a new live EP titled “L+1VE” on December 7. The effort will feature four live songs from their 2016 set at the ProgPower USA festival in Atlanta, GA. Those were originally only available as bonus tracks on their “L+1VE” DVD. Pre-orders can be found HERE.

The group commented:

“Although festival performances and band changeovers can be a logistical nightmare, this one turned out to be a very special show for us on our first extensive US tour. Despite battling with some technical issues, the show went on, so to speak, and here we have handpicked our favorite 4 tracks from that performance.

A proverbial cherry on top was getting Mike Portnoy to agree to come on stage and re-enact his cameo appearance on ‘Crystallised‘ with his signature gong!”

Track Listing:

01. “Falling Back To Earth”
02. “Pareidolia”
03. “Earthrise”
04. “Crystallised”
