Haken Premiere “Taurus” Music Video

Haken have premiered a new video for their new song “Taurus.” This track is from the band’s new album “Fauna,” which will be released on March 3.

Vocalist Ross Jennings commented:

“With such a diverse and eclectic array of material on ‘Fauna’, it was important for us to include a piece of music that represented the metallic edge of our sound which was exploited predominantly on ‘Vector’ & ‘Virus’, with our focus being on hard hitting riffs in odd time signatures.

The song’s lyrics were written roughly at the same time we all started hearing about the devastation and crisis happening in Ukraine. I was already writing the piece based on the annual migration of the wildebeests with strong references to people travelling in herds and strength in numbers.

Suddenly I realised I had an anchor for what the song could be about and knowing this gives it all the more emotional weight; We’re all on some sort of journey towards salvation or enlightenment. Sometimes out of choice or not, we need to leave the past behind us and make new beginnings. We only have each other, and belief and hope are our strongest allies.”

Haken To Release New Album “Fauna” In March, Premiere “The Alphabet Of Me” Video

Haken will be releasing a new album, titled “Fauna,” on March 3. A video for the effort’s first single, “The Alphabet Of Me,” can be found below:

“Fauna” Track Listing:

01. “Taurus”
02. “Nightingale”
03. “The Alphabet Of Me”
04. “Sempiternal Beings”
05. “Beneath The White Rainbow”
06. “Island In The Clouds”
07. “Lovebite”
08. “Elephants Never Forget”
09. “Eyes Of Ebony”

Vocalist Ross Jennings said the following about the album:

“When composing and presenting initial song sketches, we very much had an “anything goes” mentality, and whilst sounding atypically Haken, it was a piece that was all exciting us to explore and integrate into our song canon.

Where the lyrics are concerned, I leant heavily on one of my favourite writers Philip K Dick, for inspiration. Keeping our loose concept of spirit animals in mind, I re-read ‘Do androids dream of electric sheep?’ (Which would later be adapted into the 1982 film ’Blade Runner’) knowing symbolically that animals played a key role in the story.

This, along with revisiting both movies from the Blade Runner franchise, opened up some deeper philosophical topics about the nature of identity which have served as a backbone for the lyrical content.

The premise of the album when we started writing it was that every song would have an animal assigned to it. They all have something related to the animal kingdom that we could write about, but they also connect to the human world. Each track has layers, and some of them are more obvious than others.”

Guitarist Richard Henshall continued:

“It reminds me of ‘The Mountain‘. There, we had the idea of not really a narrative-based album, but more the concept of climbing a mountain and overcoming the obstacles along the way. Then we took that and thought about how it could relate to our everyday lives. All of Fauna’s animals relate to us, personally.”

Jennings also added the following about keyboardist Pete Jones’ contributions to the record:

“What Pete’s brought sonically to the band has played a massive role in why we do have a lot of new sounds on this record. It’s always a new dynamic when there’s a change in personnel, and this is a fresh and reviving one. It’s certainly helped proximity-wise, with Pete being in the country: Pete and Ray [Hearne, Haken’s drummer] would be at Rich’s place and they’d just start jamming. That’s really key to how the songs start.”

Haken Begin Recording New Album

Haken have officially started the recording process for their new album. The band commented:

“🥳 We’ve just finished drum tracking for the new album and we’re ready to hit the stage at @rdrfestival tomorrow and @comendatiomusicfest next week. See you there! 💪🏼”

Haken Premiere New Song “Nightingale”

Haken have premiered a new song titled “Nightingale.” You can check that out below:

The band commented:

“‘Nightingale‘ was the first track Pete Jones presented to the band after rejoining Haken this year. The initial song idea quickly inspired of the classic Haken sound and naturally evolved into some new harmonic territory. The song ranges from delicate moments to monstrous riffs.

We enlisted Jens Bogren to mix ‘Nightingale‘ and, as always, he’s blown us away by capturing every detail while delivering power and energy. We couldn’t be happier with the finished product.

Lyrically, the song reflects on the creative process itself; with a message that although it may be difficult of late, we must remember to be thankful for the positives in life; be they big or small.”

Keyboardist Pete Jones Rejoins Haken

Keyboardist Pete Jones has officially rejoined Haken. He will be replacing Diego Tejeida, who recently exited the group.

The band commented:

“We are truly thrilled to welcome Pete back into Haken. Pete is a phenomenally gifted musician and, in the short time since his return, he has breathed new life into the band, inspiring us to explore fresh and exciting musical territory. This is a new era for Haken and we cannot wait to share it with all of you!”

Jones added:

“I’m thrilled to rejoin the fellowship, after following the band closely over the years and watching them grow. It was great to reconnect with Rich on the Nova Collective record, and then to work more closely with the guys over the past couple of Haken albums. I can’t wait for the next chapter, and am pumped to be a part of it!”

Haken Part Ways With Keyboardist Diego Tejeida

Haken have parted ways with Diego Tejeida. The keyboardist exited the group due to musical differences.

The band commented:

“Dear all, we unfortunately have to announce that Diego is leaving us for pastures new. We’d like to thank him for sharing the journey with us so far and we couldn’t be more proud of the music we’ve created over the years. We are so grateful for all of the accomplishments, adventures and good times we’ve shared together. But never fear! Haken will continue with its mission to bring you the music we are passionate about (and we’ll have news on that soon), but in the meantime, join us in wishing Diego all the best in his future musical adventures.”

Tejeida added:

“I am very proud of what Charlie, Conner, Ray, Richard, Ross, and I have accomplished together. Looking back from the point where the band is now, it’s crazy to think that almost 13 years ago, we were a local London band with big dreams, playing to small crowds. With every album and every show, we grew immensely as both musicians and individuals. However, as in every human relationship, sometimes people grow apart.

Over the past years, it has become undeniable that the other band members and I have very different musical visions. These differences reached a turning point. In order for both parties to continue the pursuit of their musical careers, it is necessary to part ways. For this reason, my journey with Haken has come to a close. It is time for me to follow my heart and walk towards my own musical vision.

To all the fans from all over the world who have followed me and supported me on my musical journey thus far–thank you. Your support and enthusiasm have made many hours in the studio and many months away from home worthwhile. Now, I invite you to come along for another musical ride. During the pandemic, I’ve been writing music for a brand new project, together with some dear friends of mine. Some of them will be familiar faces. Stay tuned.

Diego“
