Armored Saint’s John Bush To Sit Out Immediate Live Shows Due To Illness, Dangerous Toys’ Jason McMaster To Fill In

Armored Saint’s John Bush will be missing the band’s immediate live shows due to illness. During his absence, Dangerous Toys’ Jason McMaster will be filling in.

Bush commented:

“What up Saint faithful!!

The tour has been awesome so far. We’ve had killer shows with incredible receptions, so we thank you all who’ve attended. You guys have been amazing!

We also want to thank the WASP camp. They have been extremely kind to us throughout the run.

Unfortunately, luck has dealt me a gnarly knuckle ball. I came down with an illness and even though it hasn’t made me feel bad, it still has infiltrated my nasal and chest area and planted itself. I tried to push through in typical John Bush fashion in Cleveland and Pittsburgh but by doing so I jacked up my pipes and now I sit in Baltimore frustrated and emotionally distraught.

Luckily, long- time friend and Armored Saint fan Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys/ Broken Teeth) is coming to the rescue again. He’s already helped Accept earlier this year on tour and now he’s stepping into the batter’s box for me. I am extremely grateful, and I know he’ll kill it!

I’ve seen a great doctor and he’s got me on the mend and I hope to be onstage soon.

I’m out here on the road and I plan on being near the stage in giving my band members my support.

Thanks to the fans for your understanding and don’t be offended if I don’t talk to you.”

John Bush Offers Update On Armored Saint Documentary: “It’ll See The Light Of Day At One Point”

During a recent appearance on “The Bay Ragni Show,” John Bush offered an update on the upcoming Armored Saint documentary “Armored Saint: The Movie.” According to him, the film will still “see the light of day at one point.”

Bush said the following:

“Well, Russell [Cherrington], who’s the man in charge of that and the guy who actually put it all together — it’s kind of his baby — he was doing some final editing. I think we were micromanaging it, but yet at the same time trying not to, because it is his thing. He got some amazing interviews with some people that I was really surprised that he was able to interview — people like Cliff Bernstein, who was our manager in our early days, and Ron Fair, who signed us to Chrysalis, Brian Slagel [head of Metal Blade Records], Lars [Ulrich] and James [Hetfield of METALLICA were interviewed for] it, and also Scott Ian [ANTHRAX], [producer] Max Norman, among many others. So it was really, really cool. It was really awesome, and I do think it would be amazing for that to come out.”

He also added the following about the delayed release:

“It’s just there was some footage that kind of seemed a little redundant that was a little too much. You know what? The interview parts are some of the best parts, and I love all that. It was just some of the footage. We were trying to say, ‘You’ve already showed this. You’ve already showed this.’ And there’s plenty of footage of ARMORED SAINT through the years and even recently. That being said, I think that he was kind of working with it along with his own life; he has his own thing going on. So he was kind of doing it as a labor of love and trying to get it done when he had the opportunity. It’ll see the light of day at one point. I just don’t know when yet.”

Armored Saint To Release “Symbol Of Salvation Live” CD/DVD In October

Armored Saint will be releasing a new live CD/DVD titled “Symbol Of Salvation Live” on October 22. The effort was recorded during the band’s July 13, 2018 show at The Gramercy Theatre in New York. That concert found the band performing “Symbol Of Salvation” in full.

Bassist Joey Vera said the following:

“I felt like showing Symbol… in another light was a great homage to the record itself. Also, having all the fans be there and part of that event is a way for us to say ‘Thank you!’ For, without them, we can’t do any of this in the first place.”

“If you would have told me 30 years ago that we’d be talking about this today, I would have told you that you were crazy. All we’ve ever wanted was to make our own music, to take joy and take pride in doing it. The fact that we also have very loyal fans who continue to support what we do is the best icing on this cake. I try to look at our records as objectively as possible, and when I can do that, I’m very proud that this record is a huge part of the band’s legacy, and I am extremely humbled that I’m a part of that.”

Frontman John Bush also commented:

“It links our past to our future. I believe it was the time that we honestly thought we could do whatever we wanted to musically and it would somehow work. There’s a magical feeling about it and it continues to gain mystique every year.”

Notably, the vinyl and digital editions of the release will also include demo tracks that were recorded with late guitarist Dave Prichard during the “Symbol Of Salvation” sessions. Bush added the following about that:

“They’re songs that didn’t make the record, however, there still is a vibe to those tunes, plus Dave’s playing is on them, so that makes them special.”

Armored Saint Premiere “Lone Wolf” Video

Armored Saint have premiered a new video for their song “Lone Wolf.” This track is from the band’s latest album “Punching The Sky.”

Director Robert Graves commented:

“With ‘Lone Wolf’, the band and I agreed right away that this was an opportunity to create a narrative driven video that would convey the song’s lyrical themes, while also creating an engaging visual experience. And so a noir-styled heist in the heart of L.A. just seemed to fit the song perfectly.

We decided to keep the story simple and allow the tone of the video to help convey the song’s significance. This gave us (the crew) the opportunity to create an aesthetic that intensified the song’s mood, while also getting some incredible action scenes to tell the story. Needless to say, Armored Saint fans are in for a ride. I think they’re gonna love it!”

Bassist Joey Vera continued:

“Working again with director Robert Graves was incredible. Not only is this video great to watch, but underneath the storyline lies a layer of allegory, metaphor and symbolism. Kind of a first for us. John Bush’s great lyrics twist and turn into meanings not visible at first sight. It’s a view into a person’s journey through life and how they maneuver through it all and what they gain from that experience in the end. The neo-noir look Robert created in both the story and the band performances make this a great addition to the Armored Saint video catalogue.”

Vocalist John Bush added:

“Working with Robert is awesome. The guy is truly amazing. He’s gonna be a star.

This time we pushed the dialogue. It was challenging for me, but I had fun with it. For motivation, I tried to channel some of the great actors who come into the casting studio that my wife and I run.

‘Wolf’ tackles the view of people who spend a lot of time on their own. Something I spent years doing. The solitary individuals that always keep us guessing. This video is dedicated to them.”
