Deep Purple Premiere Video For Their Cover Of Huey “Piano” Smith’s “Rockin’ Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu”

Deep Purple have premiered a new video for their cover of Huey “Piano” Smith’s “Rockin’ Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu.” This track is from the band’s new covers album “Turning To Crime,” which will be released on November 26. Keyboardist Don Airey commented:

“I’m supposed to say it’s a song I always wanted to do since I was a child, but at the same time it was quite new to me. I didn’t know the original very well, but I knew Professor Longhair’s version, which is the one that inspired my arrangement. I just love the whole thing, that style of piano playing… Very, very hard to replicate. It was a bit of a challenge. And when it came back from the other members of the band with all this other music on it, I just thought: ‘Wow, that worked out. What an insane arrangement.'”

“Everyone knows ‘Oh Well’ is a great song. Steve [Morse] did the demo for that one. You never quite know where it’s gonna go with Steve because he is very inventive. Right up until the point, with a couple of verses in, it was pretty much the same as the original. And then, all of a sudden, it took off like a rocket… in some other space.”
