Daughtry has joined forces with Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon for a cover of Temple Of The Dog’s “Hunger Strike.” You can check that out below. Proceeds from the track will go towards Feeding America.
“Chris Cornell is one of the defining voices that grabbed me by the heartstrings and made me want to be a rock singer. ‘Hunger Strike’ is one of, if not the most iconic rock duets of our generation. It’s the whole ’90s wrapped up in one song. Doing this song with Lajon, one of my favorite humans I’ve had the pleasure of calling friend and brother, means the world to me.”
“What an honor to be a part of this incredible song and to work with my brother Chris Daughtry and the boys. This to me was a musical movement in our community and still to this day in the world.”

Lajon Witherspoon (Sevendust) and his wife Ashley have revealed that they have sadly lost their unborn child. The singer recently commented on the heartbreaking news, while also thanking fans for their support.
Lajon said the following:
“Hey Y’all, As many of the extended @Sevendust family are aware (you know you aren’t fans to us, but our family), there was going to be another addition to the Witherspoon family band. We never take these blessings lightly and we know these crazy times present challenges for all of us. Unfortunately, complications arose that we were unable to plan for. Even with the best efforts of everyone involved including my lovely wife Ashley, we lost our precious baby.
We are so heartbroken. Thankfully Ashley is doing ok and with the support of y’all around us, we will get through this.
We appreciate the immense outpouring of love that has come our way through this difficult time and for that we just wanted to say thank you from all of us. We love you all and take care of each other.”
During a recent interview with 97.7 QLZ, Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon talked a bit about his upcoming solo album. The frontman said the following:
“It’s different. It’s got some rock in there, but [it’s] a lot more soulful. I think it’s even a little bit more radio friendly, if it’s okay to say it. Also, there’s some country in there. It’s a different avenue than SEVENDUST, but I think that some people who like SEVENDUST can hang out on the avenue and jam and still rock out. But I definitely feel like I’m going down a different — I’m just doing something a little bit different.”
During a recent interview with Bladerunner Radio and KMMY FM, Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon offered an update on his upcoming solo album, which he is working on with Daniel “Sahaj” Ticotin, a multi-instrumentalist who previously contributed to Mötley Crüe’s “The Dirt” soundtrack. Witherspoon said the following:
“I’m doing some music. I look forward to getting it out there for everyone to hear. It’s definitely [an] avenue, a street or two away from SEVENDUST, but still cool. I’m still writing songs. Probably about six or seven songs deep. Just taking my time. I’m not in a hurry about it at all. It’s exciting.”
Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon took part in a poker scene for the upcoming movie “Oh It’s Personal.” That film stars Kelly Perine, Traci Lords, etc. and it is expected to be released on October 10. Director Matt Berman said the following about the movie:
“Three woman are suspects in the murder of John Davis. With major pressure for a win from the Mayor and the investigation stalling, D.A. Diane Conrad asks her best interrogator Detective Scott Keating (who has been on an extended leave of absence due to a family tragedy) to take the lead on this case and find out who is guilty of the murder.”
Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon is still working on a solo project and has revealed that he will be “writing with a very well-known singer in the rock world.” He said the following on “Jon’s Untitled Podcast”:
“Actually, I’m still working on some solo stuff. So I’m excited about that too… You know I put a song out on iTunes called ‘Love Song‘ you know that some people seemed to dig. It was a little different side to what I do. I do know that I’ll be doing some writing with a very well-known singer in the rock world that I really admired. I think a lot of people will be excited about but I can’t say no more than that. We’ve been wanting to do some music for a long time l, so we’re gonna make that happen and it’ll be with my solo stuff. So yea just in the future, not too long. When the Sevendust ship starts slowing down a bit, taking on a lil’ water. [laughs]”
