John Petrucci (Dream Theater) Teams Up With Iron Smoke Distillery For Limited Edition Bourbon Whiskey

John Petrucci (Dream Theater) has joined forces with Iron Smoke Distillery to create a limited edition bourbon whiskey called “Rock The Barrel.” The 120 proof beverage will be available on May 3 at ironsmokedistillery.com. Notably, each 750ml bottle will be autographed by Petrucci and will come with an all-access laminate to gain access to an online tasting event with the guitarist and Iron Smoke CEO and founder Tommy Brunett.

Petrucci commented:

“As soon as I tasted Iron Smoke’s Cask Strength, I knew I wanted to partner with this distillery. I take a craftsmanship approach with everything I do — whether it’s my guitar playing or the people I surround myself with. I care about details and caring to the fullest is what makes something great. Iron Smoke takes the same approach and that is why we forged what we consider the perfect relationship.”

“The name, Rock The Barrel, is perfect because it gives you a sense of the experience you will have when this smoky goodness slides over your taste buds. Being from New York myself, I love how they go to family farms to get ingredients and age their bourbon in barrels from our great state.”

“For me, it’s all about the experience — how the bourbon is made, where it is made, what it smells like, what it tastes like, and even how you talk about it when you are enjoying the moment. I can’t wait for the world to enjoy a Rock The Barrel moment!”

Brunett added:

“We take the craft of making whiskey just as seriously as John takes appreciating a truly good bourbon. This collaboration is proof of that — 120 proof!”

“To join an award-winning distillery with one of the world’s greatest guitarists — it’s an amazing combination. There’s nothing like the age-old combo of bourbon and rock n’ roll! They go together like Elvis on velvet and we are more excited than a pack of weasels in a hen house!”

John Petrucci (Dream Theater) Premieres “Terminal Velocity” Video

Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci has premiered a new video for the title track of his new solo album “Terminal Velocity.” The effort, which was recorded with drummer Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater) and bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs), will be digitally released on August 28. Physical copies will be released on October 30.

Petrucci told Guitar World the following:

“’Terminal Velocity’ was actually the first new song that I wrote for the album when I entered the studio in March of this year. It stemmed from one of the many ideas and seeds that I had collected over the past several years.

I literally began with the opening motif and built the rest of song from there. I think it’s a great lead-off single and nicely represents a few of the different stylistic sides of this record that I wanted to explore as a guitar player; the melodic/thematic side, the riffing side and the shred side.”

“[The video] was created by Wayne Joyner, who made all of the promotional videos for Dream Theater’s ‘Distance Over Time’ album as well as all of the 2019/2020 DT live tour visuals including all of the updated Scenes from a Memory video content.

The tracking footage in the studio has a play-through sort of vibe while Wayne did his magic adding amazing 3-D graphics and special visual effects to help tell a story.

I think the end result is a really unique and engaging video that captures the song’s energy and definitely does the first single justice.”
