The following satement was issued:

“Our dear friend Warrel Dane, who achieved fame with the bands SANCTUARY and NEVERMORE, passed away of a heart attack in São Paulo, Brazil while recording what was to be his second solo album.

For over 30 years, Dane had been one of the strongest singers in heavy metal, giving voice to a wide tapestry of different genres and forms using his incredible falsetto and precise harmonies.

Warrel had a one of a kind voice. The highs, the lows, the grit, the charm… he had it all.

His smile, infectious energy, and incredibly kind heart will forever be in our memories.

Warrel meant so much too so many.

In honor of Warrel, his beloved Seattle family are holding an informal community wide gathering, offering everyone who felt touched by his life, in any way, to share the grief of this loss and the joy of his sweet memory.

GoFundMe Launched To Bring The Late Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary) Back To Seattle

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to bring the late Warrel Dane’s (Nevermore, Sanctuary) body back to Seattle. If you want to help out, you can donate HERE. The singer tragically passed away after suffering an apparent heart attack, while working on a new solo album in São Paulo, Brazil.

The following satement was posted on GoFundMe:

“On behalf of friends and family of the Sanctuary camp we are bringing Warrel home to Seattle.

On Wednesday, December 13th the world lost an amazing human. Our dear friend Warrel Dane, who achieved fame with the bands SANCTUARY and NEVERMORE, passed away of a heart attack in São Paulo, Brazil while recording what was to be his second solo album.

Warrel had a one of a kind voice. The highs, the lows, the grit, the charm… he had it all.

His smile, infectious energy, and incredibly kind heart will forever be in our memories.
Warrel meant so much to so many.

In the wake of this unexpected loss, the expenses to bring him home for a proper memorial service is quite high. Currently, his monies are not accessible and this fund will be used by family members to cover the costs associated with transporting him home and final burial expenses.

Watch Footage Of The Late Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary) Performing On Brazilian TV Two Weeks Before His Death

Footage of the late Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary) performing on Brazilian TV with guitarists Johnny Moraes and Thiago Oliveira two weeks before his tragic death has been shared and can be seen below. The performance was done for the show “Sonoridades,” which airs on Brazil’s RedeTV!. That show also saw presenters Mauricio “Java” and Gabriela Di França talking about Dane’s new album “Shadow Work,” shows in Brazil, etc.

Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary) Passes Away

Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary) has tragically passed away after suffering an apparent heart attack, while working on a new solo album in São Paulo, Brazil. He was 56, but it is worth noting that his Wikipedia page erroneously listed him as 48, before correcting it. R.I.P.

His guitarist Johnny Moraes told UOL the following:

“He died in the night, he had a heart attack, he was in the apartment where he stayed while recording the album, when it happened. I did a cardiac massage, we called the SAMU, who arrived very fast, but when they arrived he was already dead.”

He also added:

“His health was already very weak because of his diabetes and his problems with alcoholism. He was already facing a lot of health problems.”

The band was nearly done recording the new album, and had recently started the vocal sessions.

Warrel Dane (Sanctuary, Nevermore) will be releasing a new solo album titled “Shadow Work” ain early 2018, via Century Media. The effort was produced by Roy Z, and it features musicians guitarist Johnny Moraes, guitarist Thiago Oliveira, bassist Fabio Carito, and drummer Marcus Dotta.
