Haken Part Ways With Keyboardist Diego Tejeida

Haken have parted ways with Diego Tejeida. The keyboardist exited the group due to musical differences.

The band commented:

“Dear all, we unfortunately have to announce that Diego is leaving us for pastures new. We’d like to thank him for sharing the journey with us so far and we couldn’t be more proud of the music we’ve created over the years. We are so grateful for all of the accomplishments, adventures and good times we’ve shared together. But never fear! Haken will continue with its mission to bring you the music we are passionate about (and we’ll have news on that soon), but in the meantime, join us in wishing Diego all the best in his future musical adventures.”

Tejeida added:

“I am very proud of what Charlie, Conner, Ray, Richard, Ross, and I have accomplished together. Looking back from the point where the band is now, it’s crazy to think that almost 13 years ago, we were a local London band with big dreams, playing to small crowds. With every album and every show, we grew immensely as both musicians and individuals. However, as in every human relationship, sometimes people grow apart.

Over the past years, it has become undeniable that the other band members and I have very different musical visions. These differences reached a turning point. In order for both parties to continue the pursuit of their musical careers, it is necessary to part ways. For this reason, my journey with Haken has come to a close. It is time for me to follow my heart and walk towards my own musical vision.

To all the fans from all over the world who have followed me and supported me on my musical journey thus far–thank you. Your support and enthusiasm have made many hours in the studio and many months away from home worthwhile. Now, I invite you to come along for another musical ride. During the pandemic, I’ve been writing music for a brand new project, together with some dear friends of mine. Some of them will be familiar faces. Stay tuned.

Devin Townsend Shares Demo Of New Song “Equinox”

Devin Townsend has shared a demo version of his new song “Equinox” as part of his “Quarantine Project.” The track, which features Morgan Ågren, Nathan Navarro, Che Dorval, and Diego Tejeida, can be streamed below. Townsend commented:

“I wrote this one a few months ago, its a work in progress and this is a demo. I may use it for an album at some point, but Its cathartic, this one… Hang in there folks…no shame in feeling what we feel.”

Devin Townsend Reveals New Backing Band

Devin Townsend has revealed the backing band that will be joining him at his upcoming shows. They include: Ché Aimee Dorval (Casualties Of Cool) on vocals/guitar, Morgan Ågren (Kaipa) on drums, Mike Keneally (Dethklok) on guitar, Markus Reuter (Stick Men) on ambient guitars, Nathan Navarro on bass, and Diego Tejeida (Haken) on keyboards. Townsend will also be joined by a choir featuring Samantha Preis, Anne Preis, and Arabella Packford.

Townsend commented:

“There have been only a few times throughout my career that I can safely say I’ve taken a chance as big as I’m about to take with these new touring plans. But I believe that to not take a chance on something as important to me as this can only lead to creative stagnation.

It is with profound gratitude that I can announce this next tour. To be joined by musicians of this caliber, as well as crew and sound design of such a level, is something I am truly humbled by. As one who has been working professionally my whole career to be able to be allowed to pull something like this off, I really can’t say ‘thank you’ enough to everyone involved.

This is a quantum leap for me, and it’s a situation that I have been very proactive in choosing a group of individuals and setlist for.

I am thrilled and honoured to be joined on these next tours by drummer Morgan Ågren, guitarist Mike Keneally, Ambient guitarist Markus Reuter, keyboardist Diego Tejeida – d’Tej, singer and guitarist Ché Aimee Dorval, bassist Nathan Navarro, as well as a three person choir comprised of Samantha and Anne Preis, and Arabella Packford.

This will be without a net. No backing tracks, no clicks, a lot of room for improvisation, and every possible avenue through musicians and production of high caliber for new and interesting things to be possible each night.

Though this is the first of my upcoming plans for touring, and I don’t want to be limited in the future, my gut feeling is that this will be a truly unique and fascinatingly colourful organization that will yield wonderful things. I truly hope it can be received well enough to be brought to a lot of different territories.

In a wonderful turn of events, the tour is selling out quickly, so please don’t delay and miss the opportunity to see this unique band.

Thank you again for allowing me to do these sorts of things. Truly.

As previously reported, Townsend has a European tour booked with Haken.
