Refused Premiere “Rev 001” Music Video

Refused have premiered a new video for their new song “Rev 001.“ This track is from the band’s new album “War Music,” which will be released on October 18.

The group commented:

“In 1914 when the blinkered Kaiser kicked off that shitshow WWI, the subjects of the Austro Hungarian empire had no idea that the empire had effectively put a gun to its own head. The whole thing was gone in a couple of years. These things happen. ‘Empires rise and empires fall.’’Lots of blinkered Kaisers out there right now, eating their own, their right hands stealing from their left hands, the majority slaving away to make ends meet, infected with the venom of lack, the venom of need, excluded from social insurance, pitted against each other by ignorant ruthless infanticidal curb crawler tyrants, while an apathetic minority bathes in the eternal sunshine of a tilting climate, a doomsday clock wound up by the predatory capitalist insanity of this the most dysfunctional mammal, man.

‘REV 001‘ is a protest song. A punk rock song. We like to think of it as incredibly violent pop music. Whatever you call it, we’re hoping it’ll get your blood boiling and that it’ll make you wanna dance (like it does our fearless captain @dennislyxzen in the video), ’cause what else can one do in these desperate times? Well, we at the bottom could arm ourselves and go for those at the top, while smashing a few banks on the way? We’ll get there. Like we said, these things happen all the time. For now, we’ll leave you with these words, from author Ursula K Leguin:

“We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable–but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.”

Refused Premiere New Song “Never Fade Away” As Samurai

Refused have premiered a new song titled “Never Fade Away.” The track was recorded under the name Samurai for the new video game “Cyberpunk 2077” (out April 16).

The group commented:

“When CD PROJEKT RED approached us about writing music for ‘Cyberpunk 2077‘, we jumped at the chance. Partly because of the challenge: to write music for a fictional band that was similar to Refused, but quite different at the same time, having the music and lyrics be shaped and determined by the feel, tone and plot of an outside narrative.

The timing was perfect, we had just finished ‘War Music‘ and were still in the zone songwriting-wise. Most importantly though, it seemed to us sort of like a 2019 version of when Cannibal Corpse was in ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective‘, in other words: very cool.

Props to P.T. Adamczyk, in-house composer at CDPR, for having the vision, writing it with us, producing and seeing the whole thing through. And no, we had no idea that dude from Steve Martin‘s ‘Parenthood‘ was gonna be the lead singer.”

As previously reported, Refused‘s new album “War Music” will be released on October 18.

Refused Premiere “Blood Red” Music Video

Refused have premiered a new video for their new song “Blood Red.“ This track is from the band’s new album “War Music,” which will be released on October 18.

The group commented:

“We didn’t play a single show during the making of the last album. It was a long time to be away after the addictive chaos of our reunion shows in 2012. Playing to houses packed with maniacs losing their minds right in front of you is a narcotic to rival actual narcotics we’d venture. (Not our field of expertise, but Keith Richards definitely seems to feel that way, and he’s an expert on both.) So as we went out on tour in the summer of 2015 we were getting pretty high on our own supply (of songs that is). It was amazing, simply put.

But it was also obvious that ‘Freedom’ was, for the most part, a studio record. A great record, to us, but there was something missing as we started playing it live — something visceral, direct, relentless. At a soundcheck somewhere on the road (Austin?), Kristofer started playing this riff and we all got into it (jamming, as it were). After a while we noticed that our crew had stopped working and that the people working at the venue were standing around watching us play. Now, people at venues usually hardly notice you, they’ve seen a thousand bands more famous than you fool around with their precious ditties as they’re re-stocking the bar or setting up barricades.

So as we were settling into the riff proper and it started rolling and bouncing the way you’re hearing it today, whatever we felt had been missing, it was clear that we had begun to fill that gap. The riff turned into ‘Blood Red’, the first song we finished for the new record and the first song we played live off of it. It’s fitting that it’s now the first song you’re gonna hear from the new record because it was truly inspired by you, our live audience, the old and the new, who come out and help us turn every venue into a boiling hot mess. This one’s for you.

If I fall, you’ll help me up, OK?

Welcome to ‘War Music.’ We’ll see you in the pit.”

Refused To Release New Album “War Music” In October, Tease New Song “Blood Red”

Refused have announced that their new album “War Music” will be released on October 18. The effort’s first single “Blood Red” will be released on August 2 and a teaser for it can be found below:

The group commented:

“In the present moment, we who believe in the equal distribution of wealth in an egalitarian, ecological direct democracy, we who use gender-neutral pronouns and words like solidarity, moral responsibility, intersectionality and class warfare, we who believe in the Marxist dictum, ‘from each according to ability, to each according to need’ are on our back foot, on our backs, backed up against the wall, surrounded by enemies, our movement curtailed, our rights violated. It’s been clear for some time: the sun is setting on our beliefs.

But we still believe that capitalism is cancer / and we still believe it can be cured. We still believe that the patriarchy is cancer / and we still believe it too can be cured. We still believe in the power of art to transform and expand the mind. And last but by no means least: We still believe in the total violent obliteration of the one percent. Blood red until we’re fucking dead. Let’s go.”
