Amenra Share Cover Of Townes Van Zandt’s “Kathleen”

Amenra are streaming their cover of Townes Van Zandt‘s “Kathleen.” This track is from the upcoming Townes Van Zandt tribute album “Songs Of Townes Van Zandt Vol. III.” That effort, which also features Cave In and Marissa Nadler, will be released on April 22. Amenra’s Lennart Bossu commented:

“‘Kathleen‘ is about being in so much pain and distress that you almost do not know how to handle it anymore. As almost everyone comes to experience this at some point or other in their lives, we can all relate to it.”

Cave In, Amenra, and Marissa Nadler will be releasing a new Townes Van Zandt tribute album, titled “Songs Of Townes Van Zandt Vol. III,” on April 22. The cover art and track listing for that effort can be found below:

“Songs Of Townes Van Zandt Vol. III” Track Listing:

02. Amenra – “Black Crow Blues”
03. Cave In – “Nothin’”
04. Amenra – “Kathleen”
05. Cave In – “The Hole”
06. Amenra – “Flyin’ Shoes”
07. Marissa Nadler – “Sad Cinderella”
08. Cave In – “At My Window”
09. Marissa Nadler – “None But The Rain”

Cave In’s Stephen Brodsky commented:

“In the winter of 2010, I did a solo tour with Scott Kelly of Neurosis and Bob Wayne. It was the three of us and Ansgar Glade traveling in Bob‘s ‘green machine’ van around the UK and Ireland. At every show, Scott played the song ‘Caroline’ and each time I heard it, I found myself enraptured. This was my introduction to Townes Van Zandt. Pretty cool that ten years later, Ansgar has given me and Cave In this great opportunity to show our love for TVZ’s music.”

Amenra’s Lennart Bossu continued:

“Being Belgians, the very American folk and country of Townes Van Zandt is not exactly the music we grew up listening to, but upon discovering his songs in our early twenties, they immediately struck a chord with us. Even people who do not understand the lyrics can probably tell that they are listening to someone who has lived and suffered, and, oddly enough, at the same time find deep comfort in his soothing voice.

It is the kind of comfort that often defines great music or art in general, and it made the prospect of trying our own hand at a few of his songs no less daunting. Nonetheless, when we were asked to be part of this collection of Townes Van Zandt cover songs, we felt excited and compelled to be part of it, as, in a way, it offered us a chance to do something in return for the great songs he has given us, and also be a part of a series of albums that are almost exclusively comprised of artists we deeply respect.”

Marissa Nadler added:

“I’ve been a fan of Townes Van Zandt’s music for nearly as long as I’ve been writing songs. When I was starting out, a friend introduced me to Townes’s music, and I pretty much instantly fell in love with both the rawness of his songs as well as the intense sense of longing expressed within them. His lyrics are haunting and evocative and have inspired me endlessly. These melodies will linger with you, year after year, and hopefully keep you company along the way.”

Amenra Release Alternate Version Of “De Doorn”

Amenra have released an alternate version of their latest album “De Doorn.“ The effort, which is titled “De Doorn (Version 2),“ has been remixed and remastered by Seth Manchester.

Vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout commented:

“An album is never an endpoint for us, but a beginning. I see everything as a study, a means to learn and become better. Playing these songs live also makes them “alive”. They change and evolve in time. Just like us. Change is always.

We are always interested in seeing or hearing what others might do to one and the same recording. Different band members sometimes have different opinions and tastes, and we strive for everyone in the band to be able to have a mix and master that truly comes close to what was aspired at first. We will therefore be releasing a new version of our latest album ‘De Doorn’ coming January 21st, 2022.”

Guitarist Lennart Bossu added:

“We were familiar with Seth from his work with bands like The Body, Full Of Hell and Lingua Ignota, and were therefore eager to see the direction he would take the songs in. Seth really succeeded in bringing our sound as close as possible to what I had envisioned, adding liveliness and new layers of depth. It offers a new perspective, another side to the story that is ‘De Doorn’.”

Amenra Premiere “Voor Immer” Music Video

Amenra have premiered a new video for their new song “Voor Immer.” This track is from the band’s new album “De Doorn,” which will be released on June 25.

Colin H. van Eeckhout commented:

“‘Voor Immer‘ (‘For Ever’) was one of the first songs we have written for ‘De Doorn‘. We played it for the very first time in 2018 on the city square of Dixmude, West Flanders Belgium. Accompanied by the carillon, its bells a typical instrument from Belgium and the low countries, we connected the earth with the sky. It was initially written for a commemoration ceremony of the ending of the first world war.

Images of widows and mothers bereft of their sons. Destroyed cities and whom was left to die. Finding strength and courage to rebuild what once was there, without what was theirs.

The last time we played it live was in Menen, West Flanders Belgium end 2019. That night we gathered and burnt all our unacknowledged loss. Revealing by fire the 20feet high bronze Amenra statue glowing red, a symbol of hope.

This is a song about finding that hope, the strength to carry on. Its content ever present in the world today.”

Notably, the 2019 show that the vocalist mentioned will be available to stream on June 27. Tickets can be found HERE.

Amenra Premiere “De Evenmens” Music Video

Amenra have premiered a new video for their new song “De Evenmens.” This track is from the band’s new album “De Doorn,” which will be released on June 25. Vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout commented:

“We are only here for a split second in history. This song is about finding the answer within the question, man’s search for his place here on earth. A journey of sorrow with mere moments of beauty and happiness and this all in relation to his or her fellowman. To accept what is. Our brother Dehn Sora sculpted the digital world where Everman dwells, protected by its thorns, wounded by the others. Sacrificing blood of gold.”

Amenra To Stream “Le Cercle” Concert In December

Amenra will be streaming their “Le Cercle“ performance on December 12. That show was filmed over the summer in Kortrijk, Belgium.

The band commented:

“On a summer night this year we all came together on a meadow in our hometown, Kortrijk, to play our latest album, ‘Mass VI‘ in its entirety. This recorded performance was as a part of the ‘European Metal Alliance‘ online festival, and was the last concert we would be playing with our bass player, Levy Seynaeve.

For one last time the circle of that AMENRA era was complete. We would now like to provide you with another opportunity to view this memorable meeting of friends. It was only us, and a crew of extremely talented friends. The sparse natural setting, special light set-up and drone footage makes for a unique concert experience like never before.

A link to be replaced in this chain of strength.

A circle of fire to be drawn over and over again.”

Tickets can be purchased HERE.

Amenra Sign With Relapse Records

Amenra have signed a new deal with Relapse Records and are planning to release a new album through the label in 2021. The band commented:

“We are thrilled to announce that from now on we will be signed to Relapse Records. A haven to a lot of our friends, and now to us as well. We are looking forward to work with this more than capable team, and are eager to see where it will lead us. Our new record will see its first light mid 2021. Ever onwards.”
