Rush’s Alex Lifeson Shares Previously Unreleased Solo Track “Cherry Lopez Lullaby”

Rush’s Alex Lifeson has shared a previously unreleased solo track called “Cherry Lopez Lullaby.” The guitarist said the following about that:

“This was written during the mix session of ‘Clockwork Angels’ while in L.A. for months starting early 2012. I did an interview with High Times and the interviewer brought along a friend, an esteemed grower who provided a sample of his creation named Cherry Lopez. Because I was on an EST body clock, I was up most mornings @ 5:00 AM. I’d order coffee, sit on my hotel room balcony, read the paper and wake and bake then dive into making some fun sounds while the city was waking up. I had some borrowed acoustic and electric guitars for the duration, thankfully, as sitting around waiting to go to the studio was tedious and certainly, a bowl of Cherry kept my appetite healthy.”

Alex Lifeson (Rush) Says He Contributed To A New Track With Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) & Kirk Hammett (Metallica)

It looks like Alex Lifeson (Rush) and Kirk Hammett (Metallica) will be featured on a new track from Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine). Lifeson recently revealed the news during an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock.

Lifeson said the following:

“I think this is a project that [Morello]’s working on with a bunch of different musicians. I don’t really know what the future holds for it, but I really loved doing it.”

“He said, Put whatever you want on it — the more, the merrier. He was going to give it to Kirk Hammett, and Kirk was going to do the same thing.”

He also added:

“Being the contrarian, I did all of [these other styles], not just heavy rock stuff. We were all talking to each other while we were doing it, and we just had such a riot. I sent my stuff in and it went to Kirk then, and he sent his stuff in.”

Lifeson also revealed that he has already listened to an early mix of the track:

“It’s really some fun music. It’s so Tom Morello, his parts. I just smiled the whole way through listening to it. I thought it was really, really cool the way it turned out.”

Lifeson said the following about that instrument:

“The introduction of the Epiphone Alex Lifeson Axcess model based on my Gibson Les Paul Axcess model has all the same attributes and characteristics that I desired so much when we originally designed it. The look, the sound, the playability and the utility — it’s all there for the player at any level. I’m very proud of this guitar.”
