Foo Fighters, Perry Farrell, Sammy Hagar, Etc. To Take Part In Upcoming “Rock ‘N’ Relief: Live Stream” Concert Series

Foo Fighters, Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Sammy Hagar, L7, Deadmau5, Jewel, Ziggy Marley, Linda Perry, Silversun Pickups, K.Flay, Macy Gray, and more will be taking part in the upcoming “Rock ‘N’ Relief Live Stream” series to help raise money for CORE’s mobile Covid-19 vaccination program. The event, which is being curated by Perry, will take place on March 5-6 at 12pm – 6:30pm PST and fans will be able to watch it on the Amazon Music mobile app, the Amazon Music Twitch channel, and the Rolling Stone YouTube channel. Perry commented:

“As a mother and fellow member of this community, I wanted to do something to lift spirits and send a positive message of hope and humanity to all the healthcare workers and those on the front lines, as well as raise awareness and funds to support CORE and their relief efforts. When I first put the word out, many jumped on board to contribute; we had over 150 bands submit to play… We are extremely overwhelmed by the level of support we are getting from these rebel artists who are generously donating their time and so grateful for the backing from the biggest players in the media space. Can’t wait to get the word out and provide much-needed funding for CORE while entertaining and lifting the spirits of the nation.”

It looks like Jane’s Addiction are planning to release new music in 2021. Perry Farrell told Classic Rock the following about that:

“I wouldn’t think albums, I’d think songs. We’ve got so much Jane’s material in the can. We’ll be releasing a couple of tracks, maybe writing some new ones. Not this year, ’cause we’re getting late in the year. But I can tell you in the next month or so I’m gonna be finishing up a couple of Jane’s Addiction tracks.”

Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction) Says His Voice Box Was Temporarily Removed During Spinal Surgery

During a recent interview with Classic Rock, Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell revealed that he underwent spinal surgery in September to have some “crushed discs” removed. According to him, the procedure was “daunting” and he even had to have his voice box removed at one point.

Farrell said the following [transcribed by NME]:

“[The surgery] was successful. I have crushed discs in my neck, mostly from partying and leaning back my head to rip out notes and surfing and dancing around… There’s a long list.

They had to remove my voice box and put it on a table. That was daunting.

They literally exposed my skeleton, took the discs out and put in artificial discs. So now I am a quarter inch taller and twice as attractive to my wife.”

He also went on to say that it was the “luck of the draw” that he has lived as long as he has:

“I guess it’s the luck of the draw. I’ve overdosed numerous times, been lost at sea… They just keep sending me back, I don’t question it.”

Farrell told Kerrang! the following:

“The charge was actually led by my management, who went back and listened to the work I’d done and said: ‘You’ve never been fully realised, and we think it’s time that you put this work out in an organised manner.’ They went looking for everything that I’d done, including my first group Psi Com. Somebody actually found the masters for Psi Com in the trash and retrieved them. That’s how little I was paying attention, shall we say, in those days. Back then my attitude was: ‘What I’m about to witness is for my eyes and ears only, and that will make it really valuable.’ That sounds naïve, but in the long run it worked out that way. Psi Com wasn’t heard by a lot of people. We made the record for $500. It’s great to have it now, though, as a way to connect with my past.”

You can find a trailer for the release, along with the first single, Psi Com’s “Ho Ka Hey,” below:
