Metal Anarchy Exclusive: Dennis R. Sanders (Spirit In The Room) Talks New Project China Girl (Pig Destroyer, Cattle Decapitation, Etc.)

It was previously revealed that John Jarvis (Pig Destroyer), Derek Engemann (Cattle Decapitation), and Dennis R. Sanders (Spirit In The Room) had joined forces in a new band called China Girl. Now, I have an exclusive interview with Sanders discussing the project and how it came about. You can check that out and stream their debut album in full below.

METAL ANARCHY: How did China Girl come together?

SANDERS: John asked me to write some songs for him to scream over, so i wrote and recorded 11 songs and sent them to him. He liked them and sent back some scratch vocal tracks. He said he’d be out in LA within the following couple of weeks. So I put him up at my house in LA and we recorded vocals for 10 of the songs for 2 days. He then mentioned that his friend Derek wanted to get involved. Derek recorded bass for 3 of songs.

METAL ANARCHY: Considering you all perform in other bands, how active do expect China Girl to be?

SANDERS: Not very active. I don’t plan on doing anything else outside of this record. Derek has his main band that tours a lot and John has a couple of bands that do random fly dates here and there, but Derek and I are fully committed to our main projects.

METAL ANARCHY: How would you describe your debut album?

SANDERS: I write and record a lot, and i just wanted to write a brutally weird record that I could get out of my system. There’s a shade of strange to these songs. I’m not too familiar with their other projects aside from the Scour stuff, but i do know there is a lot of technicality going on with those bands and this is the opposite of that. It’s not really that technical but its very colorful. Manic and TechniColored maybe? I don’t know. I also didn’t record a lot of it to a click, so it has very raw and real feel to it.

METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning any live shows? If so, what can fans expect from your concerts?

SANDERS: I have no plans on performing this stuff live any time soon. Who knows. never say never.

METAL ANARCHY: What are your future plans for the group?

SANDERS: No future plans. This was just a one time record for me. Spirit in the Room is my baby and my main focus, and there is plenty to do with that.
