Interview: Nevada Rose‘s Justin DiMarco Talks New Project Life Right Now

I was recently given the opportunity to interview Nevada Rose‘s Justin DiMarco about his new project Life Right Now. That band, which also features Zachary Scott (It Lies Within), Bryan McClure (Attila), and Kyle Dameron (It Lies Within/ex-Deception Of A Ghost), officially released their debut album “Avant Garde“ earlier this month.

METAL ANARCHY: First Of all, how did Life Right Now come together?

DIMARCO: We had all met each other from previous tours and festivals from past projects. Nevada Rose and It Lies Within played a show together in Buffalo, NY and Zach, Kyle and I immediately hit it off. We stayed in contact over the years and were throwing ideas around about writing an album and creating something new. Zach and Kyle introduced themselves to Bryan at a festival in Michigan and found common interests as well, musically and creatively.

The time eventually came where we were too excited about our ideas and concepts to keep them bottled up and we had to bring them to life. After about a year of writing and recording, we knew we wanted to pursue this full time. Fast forward to now, we’ve just finished RAGEFEST 2 with Crown The Empire, Attila, Veil Of Maya, Gideon, and Hawk and we couldn’t be more excited as we’ve definitely hit the ground running.

METAL ANARCHY: How does this project compare to your other bands?

DIMARCO: I think there is a lot on this album that we all wanted to do in our previous projects but it just simply wouldn’t work or make sense. Each band is/was different (Attila, It Lies Within, Nevada Rose, Deception Of A Ghost) so what was cool is that we all came from projects where we individually wanted to experiment with new things, but at the same time pulled experience and influence from everyone’s past efforts. Whether it be the catchy choruses, groovy riffs or breakdowns, or edm beats, I think there’s a taste of everyones past band, each influenced from someone different.

At the end of the day we wanted to create an album that wants the listener to hit REPEAT after every song and that’s a philosophy each past project had.

METAL ANARCHY: What would you like to tell readers of this site about your new album “Avant Garde”?

DIMARCO: This album is a culmination of guys who have been through a lot in this industry. We’ve traveled the world, played in front of thousands on tour or at major music festivals.

We came together to form this band with the intention of hitting everyone hard and fast- musically and with our live performance. And that starts with the album. It speaks for itself.

METAL ANARCHY: Before you released the record, you released “Wolfpack” and “Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right (But Three Do)” as the first singles. How did people initially react to those tracks?

DIMARCO: When those two singles were released we were a bit overwhelmed at first. We’ve had success with our current and past projects, but never such an immediate “overload” of attention in a short period of time. It’s very humbling.

A re-occurring theme we are hearing, not only from the singles but the entire album overall, is that we’ve brought back a sound from years ago. MANY, many people are saying we sound like Attack Attack or that we’ve “Brought Back Crabcore”. We absolutely love it, we had no intention of creating a sound like that or bringing that sound back.

“AVANT GARDE” charted on the Billboards for the week of August 24th:

#6 Heatseekers
#10 Hard Rock Album Sales
#32 Rock Album Sales
#82 Top Current Album Sales

METAL ANARCHY: What are some of your personal favorite tracks from the album?

DIMARCO: My favorite track is “That Dress Don’t Lie.” It’s probably the closest thing to a “rock anthem” we have and I think it stands out. Everything flowed beautifully during the writing process. I remember it took us 2 nights to arrange it completely and after the first session I simply didn’t want it to end even though it was around 5 in the morning.
A close second is “Stuck”. I think it’s complete ear candy with just enough heavy to keep people’s heads moving. I’m a sucker for that stuff.

METAL ANARCHY: As you mentioned, you guys were recently out on tour with Crown The Empire, Attila, Veil Of Maya, Gideon, and Hawk. What was that trek like?

DIMARCO: The tour was everything we thought it would be and more. Being around bands at that level everyday, seeing how they work, setup, perform, was extremely inspiring. The shows themselves were absolutely nuts- it was a straight party every night. Weve established ourselves as a force in this genre and are incredibly grateful for all the bands and crew who took us out.

METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning any other tours in support of the new record?

DIMARCO: We have many things in the works, much that I can’t talk about quite yet. Yes there will be more tours announced soon and we can’t wait.

I can say we will be playing “The Horror On The Hudson” festival in Poughkeepsie, New York on October 27th with Slaves, Oceana, and bunch of other awesome bands.

METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, where do you see this project heading in five years?

DIMARCO: In five years we will all be driving Ferraris and Lamborghinis, sipping the finest champagne with women throwing themselves at us every day. Ya heard it here first.

Life Right Now (Attila, It Lies Within, Etc.) Premiere “Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right (But Three Do)” Music Video

Life Right Now (Attila, It Lies Within, etc.) have premiered a new video for their new song “Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right (But Three Do).” This track is from the band’s debut album “Avant Garde,“ which will be released on August 16. Vocalist Zachary Scott commented:

“We’ve always wanted to make a mini-movie for a music video. Especially one that’s not so serious and that highlights the funny side of our friendship. It was an absolute blast to go over-the-top with this one. Expect to see more comedic content from us in the future.”

Life Right Now (Attila, It Lies Within, Etc.) Premiere “Wolfpack” Music Video

Life Right Now, the band featuring Zachary Scott (It Lies Within), Bryan Mcclure (Attila), Kyle Dameron (It Lies Within/ex-Deception Of A Ghost), and Justin DiMarco (Nevada Rose), have premiered a new video for their new song “Wolfpack.” You can check that out below:

Scott commented:

“Wolfpack means we’re the three best friends anyone could ever have. It’s a song about having each other’s back no matter what. Life will throw you to the wolves, but with unity and brotherhood, our wolfpack bites back. The fangs are out.

For this video, we wanted a controlled environment in a kick-ass room with some bright lights for added effect. We collaborated with Kevin Antreassian of The Dillinger Escape Plan at his establishment, Backroom Studios, to make this happen. Our favorite part of this video is being able to ‘reflect’ and express our image that has become a staple for this band.”
