2021 Rock In Rio Festivals Cancelled

The 2021 Rock In Rio festivals in Lisbon, Portugal and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil have officially been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Brazilian event is scheduled to return on September 2-4 and September 8-11, 2022, while the Portuguese event is scheduled to return on June 18-19 and June 25-26, 2022.

Organizers issued the following [translation via Facebook]:

“Spring 2021 will be different from the one we are used to. At that moment, we would begin to assemble the entire life-bringing structure of Rock City. However, following all recent events, and based on the indefinitions of the current world scene due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we report that the next Rock in Rio will happen in September 2022.

This change has only one goal: to preserve the health of our audience, artists and teams performing in Rock City.

For us, the festival is a time of joy and celebration. We continue working full steam to perform the best Rock in Rio ever, filled with unforgettable experiences and historic performances.

Therefore, you can already note the new official dates on the agenda: September 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2022.

A thank you to everyone joining us in hopes, building a Better World and looking forward to the next meeting.

Sales scheduled for the 09/03th will no longer be happening and soon we will bring new information about the sale of Rock in Rio Card for 2022 and the attractions that will be present at the line-up!”

That event will take place on September 24 – October 3 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Sepultura will perform on the first day alongside Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, and Megadeth. Andreas Kisser commented:

“We’re very happy and honored to be part of Rock In Rio once again, especially now to open the first day of the festival, the Heavy Metal Day, with the Orquestra Sinfonica from Brazil. The biggest orchestra in Brazil and the most powerful. We got a very special set list with Sepultura songs, with songs from classical composer and we will perform the ‘Ludwig Van’ song that we recorded on the ‘A-Lex’ album live. It is a fantastic opportunity to do a unique show again on Rock In Rio and we cannot wait to see you all on stage!”
