Birmingham To Honor Ozzy Osbourne With A Public Funeral Procession

The city of Birmingham, England will be honoring the late Ozzy Osbourne with a public funeral procession on July 30. The event will find his cortège and family traveling down Broad Street, giving fans a chance to pay their respects.

The hearse and other vehicles will roll out at 1 p.m., heading to the Black Sabbath Bridge and bench. The cortège will also be joined by brass musicians from Bostin’ Brass, who will give the legendary frontman a final musical tribute.

Zafar Iqbal, Birmingham’s lord mayor, commented:

“Ozzy was more than a music legend — he was a son of Birmingham. Having recently been awarded the Freedom Of The City and following his celebrated appearance at the ‘Back To The Beginning’ concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral. We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. We’re proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.”

Birmingham City Council organized the public gathering in collaboration with Osbourne’s family, who have decided to cover the associated costs. The Council have also offered thanks to local businesses, residents, and the West Midlands Metro and West Midlands Police for cooperating with their efforts to organize the event.

Broad Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. As such, buses and trams will be diverted. Local access will be managed where possible. The road will re-open after the event. Notably, if fans are unable to make it down the street, they can watch a livestream of the Black Sabbath Bench.

Furthermore, a book of condolence for public messages will be placed at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. They will also highlight Osbourne’s achievements through their “Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero” exhibition.

The procession will be followed by a private funeral.
