Metal Anarchy’s Music In The Age Of COVID-19 Series: Interview With Ghastly Murder

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “Music In The Age Of COVID-19” series, the feature where I discuss the ongoing pandemic with various musicians. This time I have an interview with Ghastly Murder.

METAL ANARCHY: How have you been holding up during the coronavirus pandemic?

GHASTLY MURDER: The lockdown gave birth to GHASTLY MURDER’s rebirth so during the lockdown I was busy writing songs and planning future moves for Ghastly Murder. I also sing, play guitar and front The Filthy Spectacula so I also did some work for them but the new adventure was this gothic rock sound.

METAL ANARCHY: Have you been using your downtime to work on new music?

GHASTLY MURDER: Without gigs there was time to write and review new material I wrote an album’s worth of songs for GHASTLY MURDER- which is a loose concept idea based in a post apocalyptic world and that environment- some of the songs written throughout that period last year have appeared on my new EP ‘The Rise & Demise Of Gory Emminence’ which I am dropping track by track on Bandcamp then all other platforms.

METAL ANARCHY: What was the last show you played or attended before the shutdown?

GHASTLY MURDER: Last year’s lockdown put my other band The Filthy Spectacula in limbo- we played our last gig as part of the Camden Rocks festival then stayed in storage for a year.

METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning to play any livestream concerts during this time?

GHASTLY MURDER: I made a series of unplugged videos over the lockdown and played a few virtual festival dates- but it is not the same as playing live as you do not get the feedback from an audience and that is what I thrive upon.

METAL ANARCHY: Do you think the live entertainment industry will ever recover?

GHASTLY MURDER: It will but it will be a slow slow process. Plus I do not trust the idiots in government as they seem to care little for the welfare of their people, but are interested in money. They are bound to balls this up somewhere down the line. I think the ‘live environment’ will forever now be a hybrid of in person and online.

METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, is there anything fans can do to help your band or others that may be struggling during this time?

GHASTLY MURDER: Support and follow me. Listen and buy my music on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, etc. & when we play live make a point of coming to see us.
