According to The PRP, a number of Reddit users have been uncovering evidence that seems to suggest that recent rape allegations made against Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle, etc.) and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) are hoaxes.
First of all, this whole story started after Keenan made headlines when an accusation of him raping a 17-year-old girl in 2000 surfaced on an anonymous Twitter account. After that, another user apparently replied to the tweet with a similar accusation against Reznor, though that was deleted.
The account that accused Keenan then encouraged other alleged victims to come forward and tweeted out an email address saying people can send their stories there. Reddit users then did some detective work and were allegedly able to connect it to the dating profile of a 23-year-old male. If the accuser’s story was accurate it would have to be a female around the age of 35. It is possible that she could have gotten some help to maintain anonymity, but this information is still worth considering.
On top of this, The PRP also note that the account that accused Reznor was created only about an hour before the account that accused Keenan was created, which seems a bit suspicious.
Aside from that, one Reddit user, who claims to have been to well over 100 Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer shows, also offered a list of backstage practices that seem to contradict the accusation.
Furthermore, the alleged victim has refused to speak to various outlets that have reached out and doesn’t appear to have contacted authorities. Although, if they are telling the truth, it would definitely be understandable if they felt uncomfortable about coming forward.
This whole situation is a bit hazy at the moment, and there is still a chance that it could be true, but for now people may want to reserve judgement until more information surfaces.
