According to Metal Insider, Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown joined Black Label Society on stage, to play the Pantera classic “I’m Broken,” at their show in Grand Prairie, TX last night (May 23). Now this doesn’t seem like huge news since Anselmo and Zakk Wylde have been playing this song live lately and since Anselmo joined Kill Devil Hill for a cover of “Mouth For War” recently, but the fact that the three [Anselmo, Brown and Wylde] played it together is bigger news, especially since there has been talk of a Pantera reunion, with Wylde filling in for the late great “Dimebag” Darrell. Now these rumors have been circulating forever, but Anselmo did a recent interview with Matt Pinfield about the possibly of a reunion.
According to Ultimate Classic Rock he said the following:
“I think the situation would have to be correct.”
When asked about Wylde filling in he said:
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. No doubt. We [Down] are on tour with Black Label Society right now, and don’t ever underestimate the power of conversation between Zakk and I.”
He goes on to say:
“At the end of the day, there would have to be a meeting at a table – or without a table – between Rex, Vince [Vinnie Paul] and I. There would have to be a big time understanding between the two of us [Vinnie Paul and Phil] before anything happens at all. There is a great percentage of me that says ‘This generation deserves it. Let’s do it.’ And then there’s a reservation in me that says, ‘You know what, man? Legacies get passed down. Maybe we should leave it alone and just let it be part of lore and the history and whatnot.’”
Only time will tell, but for now check out this fan filmed footage of Anselmo, Brown and Wylde rocking “I’m Broken”
