Testament’s Alex Skolnick To Perform With Code Red Quintet In New York, NY

Testament’s Alex Skolnick has put together a new rock/jazz project called Code Red Quintet. The group, which also features Nathan Peck (Alex Skolnick Trio), Brian Reeder, Steve Kortyka (Lady Gaga), and Erik Kalb (John Scofield, Sharon Jones), will be performing at Chelsea Table + Stage, Hilton Fashion District Hotel in New York on November 5.

Skolnick commented:

“NEW SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT: Some of you have heard by now, but here’s what’s going on…An offer came my way to play on Fri Nov 5th at a hot new NYC venue looking to fill their calendar, @chelseatableandstage. First thought (of course): @alexskolnicktrio, but our drummer/brother Matt Z was not avail that day. 2nd thought: getting a sub..nah. 3rd thought: Why not throw together a whole new ensemble w AST bassist @nathanpeckbass (playing all electric bass), bring in sax & keys and do a whole new funk/rock/jazz jam project??? Great excuse to explore the 70s side of things I dig so much and play newer tunes of mine like “Code Red,” inspired by such great 70s tunes as “Red Alert” by Tony Williams (yes I know there’s a Rush song with that line, “Distant Early Warning,” no relation) and “Red Baron” (Billy Cobham).

This flavor sets the template for our set (hence our name CODE RED QUINTET). It will also include some of Nate’s tunes from his Funky Electrical Unit and a few arrangements of instrumental classics (Mingus/Jeff Beck for example – hmmm which song could that be?) . Super stoked these guys have come on board with us @saxophonesteve , #erikkalb and #BrianReader, and look forward to some new musical explorations/improvisations. Ticket link in bio.

PS A few words I’m hearing about this place: Swanky. Snazzy. Ritzy. Posh. In other words: GET SPRUCED UP! BRING A DATE! NO MOSH PIT! 😆”
