Resolve Premiere “Mind Awake, Body Asleep” Video

Resolve have premiered a new video for their new song “Mind Awake, Body Asleep.” This track is from the band’s new album, “Spread My Ashes Into Space,” which will be released on January 15.

Vocalist Anthony Diliberto commented:

“‘Mind Awake, Body Asleep’ is about sleep paralysis, something that has deeply affected my nights for several years. I experienced one particularly intense episode a few years ago, and while I’m now better at recognizing what is happening, the line between sleep paralysis, nightmares and reality can still become difficult to distinguish. I’ve also developed a reflex that wakes me up instantly just as I’m falling asleep, as well as a sense of paranoia that gradually sets in as the night goes on. Strangely, these episodes happen almost exclusively when I’m at home, and very rarely when I’m away or on tour.

The lyrics also touch on the way sleep paralysis was interpreted in the past, long before the phenomenon could be explained medically. It’s a set of lyrics I’m particularly attached to. I feel like the song naturally evolves into something increasingly oppressive, and captures quite accurately what it feels like to be fully conscious while trapped inside your own body, at the mercy of what your mind is making you experience.

The title is a reference to Mr. Robot, and more specifically to the idea of Elliot’s second personality taking over at night while he believes he is simply asleep.

Ultimately, there is one question I like to leave unanswered: Is what we see in those moments actually real? We can explain the mechanisms behind sleep paralysis, but that doesn’t necessarily make the experience itself feel any less real. I like the idea that somewhere between sleep and wakefulness, there might be an invisible dimension that we are only able to access for a few brief moments.”
