Poison The Preacher Premiere “Chicken Out” Music Video

Poison The Preacher have premiered a new video for their new song “Chicken Out.” You can check that out below. The track is from the band’s new EP, “Things I Want, which will be released on July 17.

Vocalist/guitarist Juan Pablo Carrera commented:

“We started working on these songs as soon as we finished writing our debut album, Vs The World, and these songs just came naturally to us. That being said, they really differ from the LP, as the song-writing and overall sound is an evolution for us. This new EP is easily the next step for us, a real evolution towards a more definitive and unique sound. It’s something that’s more refined, aggressive, harder and heavier.

We are pulling inspiration from all over the place and this is in fact a more accurate representation of all of our influences, this is a more accurate representation of the fact that we mix a lot of different stuff in our songs. This was just the logical next step for us and it came to us without even thinking about it

The EP’s first single for ‘Chicken Out’ is my most personal song to date. I specifically wrote about a past relationship and basically the song’s about what killed my relationship with her. I was so afraid of falling in love and felt that I wasn’t good enough for her. I felt that she would eventually get bored of me and dump me. I was so afraid of being hurt that I didn’t want to get involved emotionally and ultimately that was the mistake that ruined everything. She moved on and I didn’t.

The song really speaks to this regret. I now want to convey the simple message to love as much as you can and all declarations of love are important. It’s better to try than to live with the regret of not trying and this not only applies to everything in life. Take that risk, take that job, do that trip, write that song, release that book, make that movie, say what you want to say and do what you want to do. Don’t live with the regret of not trying.

If you have never heard of us before, you can expect a combination of all things metal and hardcore in a raw and aggressive package that aims to make you mosh, dance, circle pit and spin kick all at the same time. This is metal made for hardcore kids, but this is also hardcore made for metal-heads and that’s true now more than ever. Before, we had a lot of elements in our music, but the ‘crossover’ style was clearly the common ground.

However, with this new release, those lines between genres have blurred more and more, and I don’t think you can find a common ground for it all, but you can still tell this is the same style and the same band just going hard and heavy for 14 minutes

The main topic of the EP is a little depressing. You can sum it all up with the artwork. It pictures a Daruma, these Japanese dolls that represent perseverance and good luck, but with a twist. When you have one of those dolls you are supposed to paint one of its pupils when you have a dream or a goal in mind, and the other when your dream becomes true or you fulfill your purpose.

However, in our artwork, that other eye is stabbed and ripped out of the daruma’s head. Representing that the dream is not going to become true. The EP talks about broken dreams, toxic purposes, things that you would give your entire life to, but they may never become true. It’s a testament to obsession and ambition, in both a good and a bad way. It’s okay to have a purpose, to have a dream that you want with all your heart, but you can’t let it consume you and destroy your life.

There’s a beautiful balance there that you have to figure out for yourself, this is a more personal take about my life and things that I constantly feel, but I hope that this can give some peace of mind to the people that also feel pressured by themselves or others to achieve impossible things.

We will be promoting this EP with a bunch of shows, which is highlighted by our second European tour this summer. We will be playing all around the region during the entire month of July. We will also be playing at this year’s Obscene Extreme Fest and Wacken Open Air. Come through, you seriously can’t miss it. If you are already a fan through streaming or if you are vaguely interested in hardcore, beatdown, crossover or any hard and heavy genre you should come and check us out live.

The experience is completely different, as the live show is the most important part for us, the energy is better and is going to make you love us or love us even more. It’s a huge achievement for us to be the first Colombian band to be directly booked by Wacken Open Air and Obscene Extreme. We are so excited for his shows and we are going to make them as special as possible. Every show of the tour is going to be a blast, this tour is so important to us and we are going to give you a hell of a time because of it.”
