Otep, who previously announced her retirement, has resurfaced on a new Whitney Peyton song titled “Yes Men.” The track, which also features Kung Fu Vampire, can be found below:
Peyton commented:
“OTEP raps on my new song and I can tell by comments on me promoting it before it dropped that everyone thought she was screaming on a numetal hook and here’s the story… I made “yes men” with either Chris Webby or Kung Fu Vampire in mind on it for a verse.
OTEP and I had been in talks for a while about doing a song together and, like you guys, I thought we’d be doing a rock song. She has bars though and expressed if she was going to come out of retirement for a second to do another song she was gonna spit..
so I was like ya know what? Hell yeah and sent her “Yes Men” which is completely a dark hip hop beat and she killed it imo!! It worked out because I actually prefer putting an unorthodox band of characters together on songs and on beats you may not normally hear them on. I have notoriously been doing it for years usually against the advice from people around me.
A lot of folks in the industry have told me I would be farther along if I stuck in a lane and wasn’t all over the place sonically, but it’s hard for me to want to stick to one sound or vibe. Let’s mix shit up! I’m so grateful to be surrounded by talented artists that are ever inspiring and I love collaboration. I have plenty of solo works out AND on the way, but I have so much fun making art with my friends. 🖤
Enjoy “Yes Men” with the great OTEP, and incredible Kung Fu Vampire!”
