Back in July, Papa Roach singer Jacoby Shaddix made headlines after suggesting that his band and others like Korn and Deftones are “like the next Metallicas.” Now, during a recent interview with 105.7 The Point, he doubled down on his statement, saying that he wants to “be a legacy artist.”

Shaddix said the following when asked if he believes the above mentioned artists are going to reach Metallica’s level:
“Oh, absolutely, man. I mean, SHINEDOWN’s in that as well. You know what I’m saying?! For sure. And I just feel like it’s a goal, right?
I had this intention when I was a kid to become a rock star. And then once that happened, and once that started kind of happening, I was, like, ‘All right, now…’ ‘Cause we did a show with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS back in the day; it was like 2002. And I saw them do their setlist and it was just, like, all hits. And I was, like, ‘Now that’s what I’m going for. I wanna have a career, I wanna be a legacy artist.’
Now we’re seeing METALLICA out there just ripping it in the stadiums. They just had one of the biggest attendances at a stadium. You know what I’m saying? And so… that’s inspiring to us — not only to myself, but I’m sure to Jonathan Davis [of KORN] and the homies in DEFTONES or Brent [Smith] and the boys in SHINEDOWN, it’s like we see that happening and that’s where we see our bands in the next 15 to 20 years. And it’s, like, you’ve gotta have goals, right? And I’ve gotta dream big. That’s it. Whether I make it there or not, we’ll see, but that’s my goal.”
