Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Cthulhu Dreamt

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Cthulhu Dreamt.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

CTHULHU DREAMT: Cthulhu Dreamt is a concept project that started a couple months after COVID. I (Reed Reimer) started it with some friends to create something I could use to process grief, loss, and depression at having lost a daughter. The project follows a story arc set in a plausible future reality… and Cthulhu is a proxy for those things that we as humans cannot comprehend.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

CTHULHU DREAMT: There are so many influences, some who don’t even necessarily influence the music, but just the desire to create: Gojira, Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor, TesseracT, Mastodon, Opeth, Archspire, Igorrr… the list is long. Also, I read a lot of sci-fi and watch a ton of films and shows, and those always leave me inspired.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

CTHULHU DREAMT: We recently released a single “TRACE Amounts of Death” from our upcoming “Precursor” EP. It’s a nice representation of Cthulhu Dreamt because throughout the song, it runs the gamut of genre and style (much like the overall band). The song also contains a short musical theme that will be used to represent the creatures in the wider world of Cthulhu Dreamt. If readers of Metal Anarchy like high energy, and like their music taking them on a journey, I feel like Cthulhu Dreamt would be a good fit.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

CTHULHU DREAMT: Because we’re a concept project, contributors live all over the world; different parts of the US, and UK. Because of this we haven’t yet played live, but we’ve definitely discussed the possibility and what that would take, so it isn’t out of the question.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

CTHULHU DREAMT: In the near future, we’ll be releasing a TTRPG developed with game company Action Fiction and a companion novel that is based in the world of Cthulhu Dreamt. For the game we’ll also be developing a totally new and original soundtrack to accompany gameplay or that can be standalone. Over time I can see developing the multimedia universe of Cthulhu Dreamt.
