It was previously reported that Avenged Sevenfold weren’t attending the 2018 Grammy Awards to protest how the rock/metal awards are treated. Now, M. Shadows has offered more onsight into his statement. In a text to Eddie Trunk, he said it is “not really a protest per se,” but the group are not happy about the fact that the “Best Rock Song” was added to the list of categories that aren’t televised. He went on to say “Fuck ’em,” and that it’s a “waste of time and money” due to the band having to spend about $150,000 on flights and hotels to get them and their wives from South Dakota to New York and then back to Oklahoma for a show. “And then they go and pull the ‘Rock Song Of The Year’ award from TV and put us in some side venue no one gives a fuck about? Fuck that waste of time and money,” Shadows told Trunk. He also added that rock gets “no respect” from the Grammy organizers. “I mean, how marginalized has rock become when ‘Rock Song’ of the year can’t get two minutes?” he said, according to Trunk. This year’s Grammy Awards will be held on January 28.
