Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Dead Defined.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

DEAD DEFINED: Dead Defined is my solo hard rock project based in Markham, Ontario, Canada. I started the project in 2018 as a way to write honest music about real life, whether that’s loss, resilience, mental health, or overcoming the things that try to hold us back. As an independent artist, the music has now reached listeners around the world, with more than five million streams across platforms. Every release is about saying something meaningful while still delivering the heavy guitars, big hooks, and melodic choruses that made me fall in love with rock music in the first place.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

DEAD DEFINED: My biggest influences have always been bands like Alter Bridge, Creed, Breaking Benjamin, Sevendust, Three Days Grace, Shinedown, and Staind. Mark Tremonti has had a huge impact on the way I approach songwriting and guitar work, while vocalists like Myles Kennedy, Chris Cornell, and Aaron Lewis have influenced the emotional side of my writing. I try to take inspiration from all of them while creating something that still feels authentic to Dead Defined.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

DEAD DEFINED: My latest single is “One Life.” It’s a song about mental health and the reminder that we only get one life to live, so it’s important to ask for help, keep moving forward, and never lose sight of your own worth. It’s one of the most personal songs I’ve written because it comes from real experiences and conversations I’ve had over the years. If you’re looking for modern hard rock with a message that goes beyond the music, I think “One Life” is worth your time.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

DEAD DEFINED: Right now my focus has been on writing, recording, and building Dead Defined as an independent project. When the time is right to bring these songs to the stage, I want the live show to be just as honest and energetic as the recordings. Heavy riffs, big choruses, and a performance that feels genuine rather than overproduced. My goal is for people to leave feeling like they connected with the music, not just watched another rock show.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

DEAD DEFINED: I’d like to see Dead Defined continue growing internationally while staying independent and true to what it stands for. The goal is to keep releasing music that connects with people, expand into more festivals and live performances, and continue building a loyal fanbase around the world. More than anything, I hope the music continues to reach people who need it and reminds them that they’re not alone.
