The Kovenant Have About “Half” Of Their New Album “Finished”

During a recent interview with Rauta, The Kovenant vocalist/bassist Stian “Nagash” Arnesen offered an update on the band’s new record. According to him, about “half of the album is finished.”

Arnesen said the following:

“Well, we started THE KOVENANT again now. But the whole thing was we basically just wanted to do some shows, some festivals and just have a little bit fun with it. And then it turned out that we all remembered how fun it was to play together and how good we play together. So suddenly Hellhammer [THE KOVENANT drummer, also of MAYHEM] was, like, ‘Dude, we have to do a new album. We have to do new music.’ So we started writing new material, and now we have, like, maybe half of the album is finished, and it’s a mix of all THE KOVENANT albums. The four first [songs] we finished now, it sound very [much like a] mix of the first album and ‘Nexus Polaris’ — very aggressive, very dark, very atmospheric. [There’s] a lot of keyboards and stuff, but very black metal. And then, of course, me, I have to put in all the electronic stuff, all the symphonic things in there. And so we’re gonna see what it ends up as, but for now it’s not like going back, but it’s like mixing everything together.”
