System Of A Down’s Daron Malakian: “If We Can Be On Stage Together And Have Different Thoughts And Different Beliefs, You Can Be Together Too”

During System Of A Down’s April 27 set at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, NV, Daron Malakian took some time to call for unity. The guitarist/vocalist told the crowd that if him and his bandmates “can be on stage together and have different thoughts and different beliefs, you can be together too.”

Malakian said the following:

“Let me tell you something. System Of A Down is not a cult.

System Of A Down is a band, with four members. Four members who are good people, who have different beliefs about different things, different solutions about complex problems.

Stop letting the media divide you.

Stop letting the government divide you.

If we can be on stage together and have different thoughts and different beliefs, you can be together too. For those of you who disagree with me, pull the tapeworm out of your ass.”

Notably, drummer John Dolmayan and frontman Serj Tankian have continued to have drastically different views. Tankian leans left and has been known for his activism. However, Dolmayan leans far-right and has been known for his support of Donald Trump and other divisive beliefs. For his part, Malakian also generated controversy with a “centrist” Scars On Broadway titled “Your Lives Burn.”
