Bent Sea, the band featuring Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth), Sven de Caluwé (Aborted), and Shane Embury (Napalm Death), have joined forces with Kevin Sharp (Venomous Concept, ex-Brutal Truth) for a new song titled “My Fall.” That track is from the group’s new album “The Dormant Ruin,” which will be released on September 5.
Verbeuren told Decibel the following:
“‘My Fall’ was inspired by something my mom said when she was facing the end of her life,” Verbeuren tells Decibel. “Her words were totally heartbreaking, yet beautiful and poetic. They stuck with me and inspired me to write a song celebrating her life.
Growing up, my mom was very supportive of me and always willing to listen. I’ll never forget how much she enjoyed hearing me practicing drums for hours on end. Other parents might have said ‘it’s been enough now,’ but she never did. Later on, even as her hearing started to fail, she and my dad would still come listen to me play live whenever possible. Her positive energy and radiant smile inform every single one of my days.
I’m a huge fan of Brutal Truth. Musically, this song is inspired by ‘Need To Control,’ my favorite record of theirs. When I asked Kevin Sharp if he would record vocals for ‘My Fall,’ he immediately agreed, and did an absolutely stellar job bringing my words to life. I couldn’t be happier with how this song turned out. And I know that my mom is listening somewhere, proud and happy.”
