According to Rolling Stone, Josh Klinghoffer (ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers) will be avoiding jail time after taking a plea deal in his vehicular manslaughter case. The guitarist was previously hit with a criminal charge after allegedly striking Israel Sanchez, who was killed while using a crosswalk.

Klinghoffer pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. As a result, he has been sentenced to a year’s worth of informal probation and 60 days of community service. He will also be required to take a driver safety class and pay restitution.
Notably, Sanchez’s daughter Ashley was present during the hearing. During her victim impact statement, she also talked to Klinghoffer directly, saying he caused “deep and lasting trauma” through her father’s “avoidable loss.”
Ashley previously filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Klinghoffer. However, a judge ruled that she did not have enough evidence to prove that the musician was acting with “despicable and willful” conduct. Another hearing related to the civil case will be held on July 1.
